The 6 Teams That Have Never Won MLB World Series

The World Series is what all MLB teams play for, the series that determines the MLB champion since 1903 by matching up the winners of the American League and National League. While the Yankees have become one of the greatest sports teams in the U.S. because of their success in the decider, these teams have have never won a World Series.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have never won a division title but on the back of a streak of 21 wins in 22 games in 2007, the Rockies steamrolled their way to their first and only World Series appearance before getting swept by the Red Sox. Colorado have only made a handful of playoff appearances but let's remember that they're one of the newest teams in the league, joining in 1993.

Coors Field sits at 5,200 feet (1,580 m) above sea level, the highest altitude of any MLB ballpark. It's one of the most hitter friendly ballparks because of the dry and thin Denver air, which leads to entertaining and higher scoring games. There haven't been many postseason games played at Coors Field but a World Series finale here is a spectacle we'd all love to see.

Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers have the longest World Series drought for a team that has never won it, a drought that stretches back to its founding as the Washington Senators in 1961,. They'd relocate to Texas in 1972 and it wasn't until 1996 that the Rangers made the playoffs for the first time in their history after winning the AL West, losing in four games to the Yankees in the Division Series.

Agonizing back-to-back World Series losses in 2010 and 2011 is as close as the Rangers have come. Heartbreakingly, they where one strike away on multiple occasions against the Cardinals in 2011. The newly built Globe Life Field has been the home of the Rangers since 2020, a phenomenal ballpark deserving of playoff baseball.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Devil Rays are the newest team in the league not to have won a World Series, making their MLB debut in 1998 as an expansion franchise. Before they became known as the the Rays in 2008 they had early struggles as a franchise that was originally known as the Devil Rays, averaging 97 losses a season. The Rays have since won two AL Pennants, in 2008 and 2020, losing to the Phillies and Dodgers respectively in the World Series.

Limiting Tampa Bay is that they play in one of the smallest MLB markets, but lucrative AL East matchups against the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Yankees more than makes up for it. Tropicana Field is also the worst stadium in the MLB and struggles to attract crowds, so the franchise could really do with a World Series win to boost its credibility.

...I'll be back tomorrow with the final three teams that have never won an MLB World Series.

Based on cricket knowledge, I'm guessing that for the Rockies moving to low-altitude grounds for the playoffs is a bit of a disadvantage. All those mishits they make at their home ground that normally sail out of the stadium end up getting caught in the outfield (I think that's the correct terminology)

I think it also works both ways too, in the sense that opposing hitters have a field day like a kid in a candy shop. With the Rockies playing half their games there it's an advantage they should be taking

It was an interesting read and heartbreaking as well because my heart always goes to those that have not won a championship (in most sports). Have a nice day ahead.

Thanks for the comment. It does happen. My favourite Rugby League team is the New Zealand Warriors and I support them passionately. They've never won a championship since they were founded in 1995. My worry is, if they win, will I still support them as hard? Like they say, the chase is better than the catch.

You're welcome, and same here, I don't know if I support them as hard after they win.
