The 8 Best Fan Bases in English Football (Part 2)

G'day Hive! Yesterday I posted the first part of the 8 best fan bases in English football which you can check out here. Here are the final four best fan bases. Do you agree? Would love to hear stories why you think your club has a better fan base than the top club.

4. Manchester United

One of the best places to watch football on the planet is at the 75,000 capacity Old Trafford. The recent placement of the Red Army at the Stretford End of the ground has only added to the atmosphere at the "Theatre of Dreams".

Football fans describe Man United fans as 'glory hunters' following the success of the Ferguson era but the dedication of fans sticking by their team during the days of David Moyes is proof that fans of the Red Devils are up their with the best in the league.

3. Arsenal

The magically majestic football Arsenal have played over the years has attracted many fansover the years. No matter how agonizing it can be supporting the club, Arsenal fans always remain loyal. The genuine love for their club is evident during game day at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal will almost always fill it's stadium and that's despite having one of the highest ticket prices in Europe. A season ticket is the most expensive in the league at around £900. A quiet and nervous crowd is often mistaken for a lack of passion, and disappointed groans are a more common theme that can be heard through television sets at home. But when things go right, the Gooners are among the most boisterous fans in the league.

2. Newcastle

The Geordies love their football and Newcastle United have one of the most passionate fan bases in the league. You've only got to look at the wild and jubilant celebrations of Newcastle fans following the announcement of the Saudi-led takeover of the club to understand just how much their football team means to the city.

Even during their stints in the English Championship, there was hardly ever an empty seat at the iconic and architecturally unique St. James' Park. So dedicated are the 'Toon Army', during a 2011 pre-season friendly at non-league side Darlington, 6,000 fans made the away game trip. And the way the Geordies get behind their own local heroes - Alan Shearer, Andy Carroll, Steven Taylor and Shola Ameobi to name a few - takes passion to a whole new level.

1. Liverpool

According to social media numbers, Liverpool is the third most popular team in the world, however, they have the best fan base in the Premier League. The game day atmosphere at the over 53,000 capacity Anfield is electric and arguably the best in world football.

The pre-match rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' sung by Liverpool fans before each home game can only be defined as spine tingling and 'The Kop' is easily the most famous stadium stands in the world. Liverpool have a massive worldwide following and they all went absolutely crazy when the club won their first ever Premier League title in 2020, their first top division title win in thirty years.

Of course, the four teams I mentioned are the best in terms of fan bases, and it is difficult to determine who is better. I think Manchester United has the best fan base in the English Premier League.

Liverpool fans are the best, and they can sing for the duration of a game. It astounds me that Arsenal supporters made the top three; Arsenal supporters can be so enraged at times.

Haha, engaged. Love it. I think that's what makes them special though, the fact that they have so much passion.

I did look into it a bit because sometimes the Emirates sounds a bit quiet. Arsenal fans can be quite nervy and you can't blame them for how they've been post-Wenger.

Good choices! I'm a lifelong Newcastle fan that lives in the north-east so I'm extremely biased but I'd definitely agree that it is between us and Liverpool. Now that we've had our big takeover I think we'll gain a huge amount of international fans as results on the pitch and high-profile signings get back to where they were when I first started going to watch us as a kid in the 90's.

Yep watch all the younger generation grow up Newcastle fans now once you guys get going. I mean you guys are out of the relegation for the time being which is huge.

One thing I missed, which Georgies probably are laughing at now, is the demise of Sunderland and the Tyne-Wear derby. I'd have to say that it's my favourite English derby by far

Totally agree, it's amazing for the area! I have two young nephews that had started to wear Chelsea or Man City kits but they've given up on that since the takeover and recently went to their 2nd Newcastle game.

Yeah, the fan base is kind of split on that one, although there are definitely more fans that want to see them come back up now. For me, I used to hate watching the derby purely because the results tended to go against us in recent history.

Sunderland always found sixth gear when up against Newcastle. Shame they couldn't do it against anyone else 😂
