The Biggest and Most Hatred Filled Rivalries in Football (Part 2)

G'day tribe. Yesterday I began the series of the biggest and most hate filled rivalries in football which you can see here. Check out part two below!!

biggest-derbies-world-football(2).jpg

10. Olympiacos vs Panathinaikos

The Derby of the eternal rivals is a battle between Greece's biggest clubs and Greater Athens rivals. The ferocious intensity between both sets of supporters has made it one of the biggest rivalries in football. Historically it's a battle between high class Olympiacos and working class Panathinaikos.

9. Galatasaray vs. Fenerbahce

The Istanbul-Turkish giants are among the biggest rivalries in football and clash in the Intercontinental Derby. Fenerbahce were founded by local Muslims in the Asian part of Istanbul in contrast to Galatasaray, based on the European side of the city and historically high class French influenced. Enough said!

8. Red Star Belgrade vs. Partizan

One of the biggest derbies in football is between Serbia's capital city clubs
Red Star Belgrade and Partizan. The brutal rivalry stems from their geographical closeness with their stadiums a 12-minute walk apart.

7. Flamengo vs Fluminense

The Fla-Flu derby is Brazil's biggest football derby between Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo and Fluminense. In 1911 Fluminense players broke away to create Flamengo because of a disagreement with the board. The Fla-Flu derby set a world record attendance for a football match in 1963 with 194,603 fans at a game.

6. Manchester United vs. Manchester City

Manchester City and United are separated by only 4 miles (6.4 km). Although United have been the most dominant team in modern times, City have had an epic resurgence on the back of foreign ownership. Kompany's derby goal in 2012 was the turning point of the rivalry which is the most watched football game in the world.

...OK tribe I'll be back with the final part tomorrow. Who do you think are the biggest rivals in football?

Great post ! In my opinion the rivalry between Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce and Red Star vs Partizan are 2 of the fiercest rivalries that exist, Turkish and Serbian fans have been characterized as some of the most violent and intense in the world.

Man utd and man city's rivalry was one of the best back then, you could hardly tell the result of the game, but now it's just a free lane for man city anytime they play against their neighbours man utd.

Yep, United have regressed. I suppose its City's turn following United dominating for so long

In my pov, the rivalry between Manchester City and Manchester United isn't holding so much weight as before. Maybe because United has seen a reduced quality.

However, one of the biggest football rivalry is seen in the Spanish league.

Spanish league definitely has fire. Let's see if it was good enough for first place!

No 8 on your list has to be the worst rivalry in football history as this was political motivated and the police and Government were on the one side. I guess you are going with Celtic vs Rangers but Red Star and Belgrade have to top them for violence.

The Belgrade derby is big and it is very violent. In terms of violence I also think that the Polish ones are fierce. I do have to say that club stature did impact and skew some of the rankings. The Old Firm did rank very high, but not first!

Gremio vs Internacional / Palmeiras vs Corinthians / Atletico vs Cruzeiro / Flamengo vs Vasco. Personally I think all of these rivalries are better than Fla-Flu, in no particular order

I am guessing the Los Blancos and FCB will be the #1 (^_^)

Hahaha again...our noisy neighbours hahahaha. I would still pick the Liverpool rivalry over City but it's true, we cannot ignore City anymore and it has grown intense over the years.
