Country: Uruguay
Nickname: La Celeste

Last World Cup Appearance: 2018 (Quarter finals)
Previous World Cup Appearances: 13 (1930, 1950, 1954, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1986, 1990, 2002, 2010, 2014, 2018)

World Rank: #13
Star Players: Federico Valverde, Darwin Nunez, Luis Suarez

Two-time World Cup winners Uruguay will be spearheaded by Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani but with strikers almost 36 years old by the time the World Cup comes around are their best years behind them?

The South American giants love the big stage but awaiting them will be Ghana who will be looking for the ultimate revenge against Uruguay after the 2014 World Cup chaos following Suarez's hand ball.

Uruguay made it to the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup after knocking out group rivals Portugal in the round-of-16 stage before losing to eventual World Cup winners France.

The Uruguay squad has a wealth of talent most notably with Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde. They'll be looking to out together consistent performances to better their 2021 Copa America quarterfinals elimination.

World Cup Group: Group H - Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

Prediction: In June this year Uruguay showed that thryre ready for a strong Qatar 2022 after trading powerhouse Mexico 3-nil.

Valverde was a hero in Real Madrids Champions League Final win over Liverpool as he provided the inch-perfect cross that led to Vinicius scoring the winning goal in the 59th minute.

In the midfield there are options like Lucas Torreira and Matías Vecino who could help our Valverde.

At the back Uruguay are strong. Captain Diego Godín is in the twilight of his career but his experience will be extremely crucial for Uruguay at the World Cup. He'll likely be starting centre-back but who will partner him?

Jose Giménez of Atlético Madrid is amazing when his team is in possession. Sporting Lisbon center-back Sebastián Coates offers another option and his height of 6-foot-5 could be a huge asset.

Young star Darwin Núñez could be an X-factor. His excellent acceleration and speed, ability to strike the ball explosively and his potential on the counter attack would perfectly compliment Suarez or Cavani.

Uruguay is a real dark horse for the World Cup. They should manage to get out of their group without too many troubles and match their 2018 World Cup performance.

Man really good review. It's always fun to get to know the WC teams a bit more and I actually believe they will advance from the group stage. They have much routine when coming to perform in the WC!
