You can be far away, but the country where we were born runs through our blood and any triumph makes us happy and kills a little the nostalgia of being far away from our own.
My husband and I experienced this during the competition held in Varadero on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the first days of May.
It is true that our sport is not going through its best moments and that is why moments like these are lived as if they were the best in the world.

Couples from several countries participated in the competition and, in addition to the Cuban hosts, there were teams from the United States, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Nicaragua, among the most important ones.
In the case of the Cuban couples, their greatest hopes were pinned on the main male couple made up of Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, who are already among the best beach volleyball couples in the world.
It was an intense event, in which the couples had to play two matches a day in order to complete the competitive schedule.
As the competition progressed, the two Cuban men's pairs advanced to the semifinals, while the two women's pairs saw how one of them was eliminated and the other advanced to the semifinals.
In this way, Cuba managed to place three of the four pairs in the discussion for the medals: two in the men's and one in the women's category.
In one of the men's semifinals, Cuba faced its two pairs and in the women's Cuba faced the U.S. pair. From this phase, the U.S. pair in the women's and the main Cuban duo in the men's were victorious.
Yesterday we were able to see how two Cuban couples won bronze medals and placed the country with the highest number of medals, despite not having a title because, in the women's category, that honor went to the United States. However, the main event was still to come in the men's event, where Cuba and Nicaragua faced each other.
This battle was important, because if Cuba won, it would win the men's title and, adding the two bronze medals, would give it the first place by countries.
When the game started, it was shown that the Cubans were coming to win the medal and prove that they were the best players in the competition.
Point after point they won the first of the two sets by 21 points to 10.
In the second set, the Nicaraguans started stronger and won by two points, but, soon, the waters took their level and the home team won by 21 points to 11.
Thus, the Cubans won the men's section and, with a gold medal and two bronze medals, managed to win the competition by countries.
