Mis tíos que son en número 5 hombres, jugaban con un viejo balón de basket que mi papá guardaba en los anaqueles de la bodega especialmente los fines de semana en las inmediaciones de la calle de en frente cuando todos coincidían luego de trabajar, era como una terapia de relajación y diversión al mismo tiempo. Recuerdo que a veces me sentaba junto a mi hermana a observar aquella partidas de basket callejero junto a otros chicos del barrio y siempre terminaba riéndome por las payasadas que siempre hacían con la pelota en sus manos.

Se metían la pelota bajo la franela, se la colocaban en las rodillas y daban vuelta, simulaban pasarla a un compañero y se la daban a otro y cosas por el estilo y eran la diversión de todos por la forma particular de jugar... lo que yo ignoraba era que estaban emulando a un famoso equipo de baloncesto norteamericano que hacían las mismas cosas pero a nivel profesional y que llevaban por nombre Los Trotamundos de Harlem.

My uncles, who are 5 men, used to play with an old basketball that my father kept in the shelves of the bodega, especially on weekends in the vicinity of the street in front of the house when they all coincided after work, it was like a therapy of relaxation and fun at the same time. I remember that sometimes I would sit with my sister to watch those street basketball games with other kids from the neighborhood and I would always end up laughing at the antics they always did with the ball in their hands.

They would tuck the ball under their flannel, put it on their knees and turn around, pretend to pass it to one teammate and give it to another and things like that and they were the amusement of everyone because of the particular way they played... what I didn't know was that they were emulating a famous American basketball team that did the same things but at a professional level and they were called the Harlem Globetrotters.

Ciertamente existía en los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica desde el siglo pasado un equipo de baloncesto integrado en un principio por hombres afroamericanos que hicieron de este maravilloso deporte un verdadero espectáculo llevándolo más allá de una competencia deportiva, eran los magos y artistas del balón que gracias a su creatividad se ganaron los aplausos y el cariño de millones de personas de todo el mundo, en especial los niños que acudían a donde quiera que se presentaban convirtiendo sus presentaciones en un verdadero circo donde la diversión era el plato fuerte de la jornada.

Nosotros no tuvimos televisión en nuestra casa sino a mediados de los 80 y señal de cable a principios de los años 2000 por lo que en mi caso conocer la historia de estos jugadores hasta ese momento me era imposible, mis tíos lograron comprar un VHS y en una oportunidad alquilaron en la tienda una película donde tuve la oportunidad de verlos y conocerlos por primera vez!.

Certainly there was in the United States of America since the last century a basketball team composed at first by African-American men who made this wonderful sport a real show taking it beyond a sports competition, they were the magicians and artists of the ball that thanks to their creativity won the applause and affection of millions of people around the world, especially children who came wherever they appeared turning their presentations into a real circus where fun was the highlight of the day.

We did not have television in our house until the mid 80's and cable signal in the early 2000's so in my case to know the history of these players until that time was impossible for me, my uncles managed to buy a VHS and once they rented a movie at the store where I had the opportunity to see them and meet them for the first time!

Ya mis tíos están mayores y no practicaron más estas rutinas divertidas emulando los grandes magos del baloncesto, es una lástima que no posea registros fotográficos que pueda compartir por acá ya que tampoco poseíamos una cámara por lo costosas y escasas que resultaban pero en mi memoria conservo uno de los más bellos recuerdos de unión familiar asociados a un deporte como lo eran ellos juntos jugando cada fin de semana.

Gracias a la comunidad de @fulldeportes por crear estos espacios para rememorar estos momentos felices de nuestras vidas al poder expresar en este blog momentos de mi vida personal asociados a esta hermosa disciplina que aunque jamás la practique admito que es un gran deporte y que además es uno de los más jugados a niveles de barrios en mi país.

My uncles are older and no longer practiced these fun routines emulating the great magicians of basketball, it is a pity that I do not have photographic records that I can share here since we did not own a camera because of how expensive and scarce they were but in my memory I keep one of the most beautiful memories of family unity associated with a sport as they were together playing every weekend.

Thanks to the community of @fulldeportes for creating these spaces to remember these happy moments of our lives to be able to express in this blog moments of my personal life associated with this beautiful discipline that although I never practice it I admit it is a great sport and is also one of the most played at neighborhood levels in my country.
