Golf The Joe for 10k - Sublimesunday

I pledged that every time I created 10k steps, you would get a story. Friends like @cryptospa, @godfish, and @carrinm have lifestyles (and wallets!) where they make it over 10k steps for the huge rewards all the time. Me? I don’t have a Fitbit (I use my iPhone), have a desk job, and can’t count the many steps during my best workouts as they are on the bjj mats.

So, 10k is a means for celebration. Like yesterday for me.

Golf is one of the 10k occasions for me but this summer hasn’t seen too much of that activity. You see, all the golf funds have been eaten up by rent for the new https://www.towncriermarketing.ca office so we have only gotten out once so far.

This sunny day was spent at Brooklea golf course near Midland Ontario which is up in cottage country. I have played this course a handful of times as it has been the site of our yearly golf tournament a few times in the past.

This was the 21st annual Golf the Joe. In short, a tribute to a grandfather who passed away what many times feels like yesterday. The whole family he lead gathers to celebrate him and each other once a year in one of the trash-talkingest sporting events of the years.

The loudest bunch of blue-shirted Joe’s descend upon the course. “Nice shot Joe!” “Hey your ball is over here in my fairway Joe!” Or, “how many Joes are you permitted in a regulation 4-some Joes?” Turns out the answer may be 6?

My better half even gets into the swing of things and competes for the female division honours. I am not sure I have taught her well enough how to honestly score a gold game but Joe was a notorious golf cheater so I suppose it is alright she took home the title! Missed this very long put by only a couple feet but it was a great effort.

As for me, my name is on the coveted trophy twice. No spoiler but I came up a little short this year. Despite this only being my second round this year, I managed to break 100 and ended up tied for third at 97. Rather proud of myself as I had a few @davedickeyyall breaks during the round and hit many great shots despite a drastic lack of practice. I left at LEAST 6 putts 1 foot short with a perfect line to the hole. If I had have hit only half of them that exact direction and a touch harder, I would have been in the running for my third title.

The golf is almost a sideshow compared to the 100-person family party afterward. This is a long weekend in Canada so all of the blue shirts assemble with family and friends at the host family for food and fun. This year, the activities included the Joelympics which I happily observed from a safe distance away.

The sunset after the Joe seems so much sweeter than others for some reason. Seeing family members again, too much fun and food, and despite coming up short in search of my third title, it was a #sublimesunday indeed.

Good game Joes!

Man, I have both Fitbit and iPhone ;) And I do walk a lot because I live in one of the most wonderful places in the world - Prague - where walking is more than pleasure :)) Once you arrive to the very heart of Europe, I'll take you around local craft microbreweries. There's like fourty just in the capital. My treat!

I've never understood the poit of golf but it seems you had a great time, so I am glad for you.

Golf is amazing. Equal parts outdoors, athletic endeavour, social event, and, (hate to say it) white privilege. Never considered it til last year but I have been golfing since I was a kid and I bet there are plenty of other people who never had the chance to for 1 reason or another. Keeps me thankful and constantly thinking about equality I am hopefully helping fight for.

When the blockchain #beerologist arrives in Prague, it will be like the realisation of my #hive dreams. We will have to drag @detlev there too.

I myself am very fond of playing this game but so far I have not been able to play because there is no such ground inside Multan so I have to go to other cities whenever I feel dizzy. I will play his game very much.

I wore a fitbit for a few days, provided by a friend of mine. I never made it past 1000 steps! I felt very bad about myself, until she used it for a day and couldn't get it to work. I have no interest in counting my steps now.

Excellent actfit post!!!

I don't use it often now. Many of the people who kindly support my posts refuse to upvote @actifit posts because so many mail those in with no content and photos. Still, a promise is a promise and it isn't all about the rewards.

Having 10k steps in a day is a lot and I guess Golf helped you to achieve that
Am I right?

You bet. I use a golf cart which saves many steps but I generally get over 10k on a golf day.

It is always great to spend time with friends. I love the sound you make when you hit a golf ball. I don't play golf but I've seen it many times on the internet. Have fun together guyzzz

Ya the sound alone is so gratifying. I have a big old Nike driver and I swing like a caveman so the sound makes people duck at the driving range!
