10k Cottage Steps
Hot and dry enough to be under fire ban but cottage is about being outdoors. This is the signature 8th hole at Haliburton Highlands golf course. 200 yard downhill par 3 and I used a 5-iron.
I walked down to take a seat near the water and these doods came paddling past. Mom and 7 little ones came right up onto the beach, snacked on weeds, cleaned themselves and huddle together for a nap in the sun.
Maybe some of the happiest steps down on the dock with an ipa from just down the road a ways. Canoeing counts as steps too!
Just before midnight and the sky is bright despite the wildfire haze. Apparently Minnesota is having reciprocal fires to send some smoke our way.

And what did you score on said 8th hole?
I hit that fuckin 5 iron a little soft and luckily landed on the little circle of fairway short of the green. Acceptable flop shot and a 2-put for a bogey.

Last year, we were sitting on the dock in the third pics with our feet dangling in the water. A single duck like in the pic paddled up so close, it was playfully nipping at our toes. You would have liked that one too!
Sounds like the perfect way to spend a day-great golf, relaxing by the water, and some cute duck family visits to top it off! That 8th hole is a fun challenge too. Hope the wildfire haze clears soon so you can enjoy more sunny skies. Looking forward to your next pics!

It is more of an inconvenience and a reminder that we need to do better for our natural resources for me. I know some people with respiratory issues don’t enjoy it and it seems to be getting worse.
It is fascinating that smoke can stick together and travel hundreds of miles without dissipating. I hear most of the fires were started by lightning strikes but there is a campfire ban across our region right now so human causes must be common as well.
Yep, somebody even started a fire near my house an coincidentally there was an electrical malfunction that period so whoever did hat scared the shit out of me cause I thought a house was in fire but it was just a coincidence

Definitely enjoy that like nothing else. I was thinking that it is the highlight of my year but started thinking about a few other yearly events that rival that. Doesn’t get much better than a cottage though.
