UFC - Big Match for a Team Mate!
Long time followers and those reading those sentence will know that one of my things is training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Just over 10 years but this post is not about me. It is about one of the other folks who trains with our group of academies. Malcolm Gordon and his fight in the UFC last night.

I will first have to admit that I don't remember ever getting to roll with Malcolm on the mats while I trained in Toronto. I can tell you we are 20 feet apart in this picture of one of our annual tournaments. That is about how much I can say I contributed to his rise to the UFC. Still, I can cheer on a brother who sweat into the same mats as I have.
Friends on the Big Screen
It was surreal to watch the fight with the regular group of friends, and see Jorge and Mark Hominick walking him out to the cage. I always worry about the Jiu Jitsu fighters I know that fight MMA as I hope only for a flawless victory with no damage suffered and that barely happens.
Tap, Nap or Snap!
I assume you are reading this for the spoilers so I might as well lay them on. https://www.essentiallysports.com/ufc-mma-news-video-fighter-suffers-gruesome-elbow-injury-just-a-couple-of-minutes-into-his-nightmare-ufc-debut/ is a headline after the fight so you know something went down.
No big numbers in the results as the fight did not last long. They fought like squirrels and landed in a position where Malcolm had his opponent in an arm bar. This guys is tough and has probably been in hundreds of arm bars so he scrambled to escape. He did manage to get out but I wondered how he could have as it looked tight, and Malcolm is a black belt in arm bars under a Brazilian black belt in arm bars. There was another scramble and the fight was stopped because the opponent's arm was indeed broken.

Interview with the Count!
Then, there is Malcolm being interviewed by Count Bisping after the fight. Pretty funny interview and he dropped a few Fbombs for good measure.

It was mercifully a quick fight so I didn't chew my fingernails off. No real damage to our guy and I am sure they had a hell of a night in Las Vegas last night. Proud of Gordon and of the team.
Here's to a long UFC career for Malcolm X Bruh!

You aren't kidding about squirrels. There was some scramblin.
Hope the other guy heals up ok.
Nobody likes to see bones get broken.
It was more likely a dislocation of that elbow than anything. Not pleasant but those 30 year old guys bounce back quick from that unless there are torn ligaments or the bones break the the edges of the join off.
Some of those ufc fighters are too tough to tap!
Ya man.
Being too tough to tap gets great views but it is a sure way to get a dislocated elbow or go to sleep.
And I think that's why I love it.
Just knowing how grueling it is amazes me.
I like to watch, but the UFC sometimes get to rough for me!!
