The positions that people sleep in during the night can frequently play a role in the development of joint stiffness.
If a person does not sleep in a way that keeps their neck in a neutral position and aligns their spine, they may wake up feeling stiff or achy. This can be avoided by sleeping in a position that aligns their spine.
People who sleep on their sides should try to avoid lying on a particular side if it is already feeling stiff. This is especially important for those who sleep on their stomachs. A good night's rest and less joint stiffness can be achieved by maintaining the body in the proper sleeping position throughout the night by using a variety of pillows around the body.
