Was the 90s, if you have not seen the film in question run to watch it because reading this article you could have a little too many inevitable spoilers, when you saw it I'll wait here for the appropriate comments! While if you are among those who already saw it or do not care about spoilers, this film is about a college basketball coach who is prepared to do anything to bring his career back into the limelight and bring back the school team that trains to the glory. The part of the coach Pete Bell was played by Nick Nolte, passional, even too much, lost the university title resort to illegal compromises to grab three excellent players for the next season, the players in question are real basketball players, one of them has become an NBA legend: Shaquille O'Neal, who is discovered by a talent scout in the "Algiers hell" (Louisiana), who plays in courts "Fight Club style".

Another famous NBA player playing is Penny Hardaway, former Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Miami Heat, as well as Matt Nover, a player who has played in several European professional teams. Many cameos, among them that of another basketball legend, Larry Bird, as well a former NCAA coach: Bobby Knight. Robert Wuhl also takes a brief appearance.

Other important actors are:

• Mary McDonnell, who plays the part of Pete's ex-wife.
• J.T. Walsh, the rich former student who will help the coach to hire players by any means, greedy, arrogant and unscrupulous character.
• Ed O'Neill in the role of the "annoying" journalist.
• Alfre Woodard, the pretentious mother of Butch McRae (Anfernee Hardaway).

A complaint to corruption of young kids by the university teams, while they are able to get them to play in their teams offering money and much more, going against the rules imposed by the federation. During the film you will see slam dunk & show time, it ends with a beautiful message, Pete suffers too much pressure and failing to hold it is forced to report himself in front of the press and chooses to quit his coach career, the last scene is significant, just finished the stormy press conference he meets some children playing in a suburban court, he does not resist and begins to teach the children the basic movements of this magnificent sport.

When I saw this film for the first time I was 13 years old, I was always impressed in my mind, more than for the scenes for its meaning, rules respect is a fundamental requirement for any sport, if they exist there is a reason, you are free to agree or not, but they must be respected. I think I learned a lot at the time from this simple film, sometimes important lessons come from the most unexpected directions.

Correvano gli anni '90 quando nelle sale uscì questa pellicola, della quale il titolo originale è "Blue Chips", completamente stravolto dunque e forse anche troppo esplicito. Se non avete visto la pellicola in questione correte a guardarla perché leggendo questo articolo potreste avere un po' troppi inevitabili spoiler, quando l'avete visto vi aspetto qui per i commenti del caso!

Mentre se siete tra quelli che la conoscono o ai quali non importa nulla questo film parla di un allenatore di Basket di un'università che è disposto a tutto per riportare alla ribalta la propria carriera e far tornare la squadra della scuola che allena allo splendore di un tempo. La parte dell'allenatore Pete Bell è stata interpretata da Nick Nolte, passione da vendere, anche troppa, perso il titolo universitario ricorre a compromessi illegali per accaparrarsi tre ottimi giocatori per la stagione successiva, i tre giocatori in questione sono giocatori reali, uno dei quali è diventato una leggenda dell'NBA: Shaquille O'Neal, il quale viene scovato da un talent scout nell'inferno di Algiers, il quale gioca in campetti in stile Fight Club.

Un altro famosissimo giocatore dell'NBA è Penny Hardaway, ex degli Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Miami Heat, oltre che ha Matt Nover, giocatore che ha militato in parecchie squadre professionistiche europee. Molti i cameo, tra i quali spicca quello di un altra leggenda del Basket, Larry Bird, nonché un ex allenatore NCAA: Bobby Knight. Anche Robert Wuhl si accaparra una breve apparizione.

Altri attori di rilievo sono:

• Mary McDonnell, la quale interpreta la parte dell'ex moglie di Pete.
• J.T. Walsh, il ricco ex studente che aiuterà l'allenatore ad assoldare i giocatori con ogni mezzo, personaggio avido, arrogante e senza scrupoli.
• Ed O'Neill nella parte del "fastidioso" giornalista.
• Alfre Woodard, la pretenziosa madre di Butch McRae (Anfernee Hardaway)

Una denuncia alla corruzione dei giovani da parte delle squadre universitarie, ce pur di riuscire a farli andare a giocare nelle proprie squadre gli offrono soldi e quant'altro, andando contro le regole imposte dalla federazione. Un tema purtroppo ancora attuale, giusto lo scorso anno l'FBA ha aperto un'inchiesta riguardo ai prestiti elargiti dalla società ASM Sports che fa capo all’ex procuratore NBA Andy Miller. Tra schiacciate e giocate di altissimo livello il film si conclude con un messaggio molto bello, Pete subisce troppo questa pressione e non riuscendo a reggerla si vede costretto ad auto denunciarsi davanti alla stampa e sceglie di ritirasi, l'ultima scena è significativa, appena uscito dalla burrascosa conferenza stampa incontra dei bambini che giocano in un campo di periferia, egli non resiste e incomincia ad insegnare ai pargoli i movimenti basilari di questo magnifico sport.

Quando vidi per la prima volta questo film avevo 13 anni, mi è sempre rimasto impresso, più che per le scene per il suo significato, il rispetto delle regole è un requisito fondamentale per qualsiasi sport, se esistono un motivo c'è, ci si può trovare d'accordo o meno ma bisogna rispettarle. Credo di aver imparato molto all'epoca da questa semplice pellicola, a volte insegnamenti importanti arrivano dalle parti più inaspettate.
