My Actifit Report Card: New Personal 10K Record - September 8 2019
Set out yesterday with a goal in mind. Beat my previous 10K time and be able to function the next day. Well it’s the next day and I’m functioning… sore quads but it’s a good sore, if you know what I mean.
Had a bit of a scare a couple of weeks ago with some agonizing knee pain after a run. I had to cut that run at 8k and try to figure out what the hell was going on. I had a clicking on the outside of my knee and pain from my hip to the knee. I thought I was done. It turns out that it’s iliotibial band (IT band) syndrome. After reading up on it I’ve worked into my routines an extensive dynamic warm up and warm down along with daily rolling (using lacrosse balls - plenty of those around the house) of the connective muscles.

I found a great video that may have saved me.
Anyhow, a couple of weeks later I have minimal discomfort and was able to break my 10K timing.

I gave up on running after surgery on my knee and Army time. They told me I had imbalance in leg muscle similar to your IT band issue. Was in physical therapy doing stretching and felt like a chump. No pain from walking and hiking here and definitely getting our cardio on these hills.
Ya, starting to wonder if all those rucks and doing other stupid army stuff are coming around collecting. I'm switching out every-other week with a long hike and a long run. I've been doing some shorter runs (2.5-5K) and we'll see how that goes...May have to back off on the longer runs and just focus on going faster on the shorter ones... getting old sucks - the older I get the better I was when I was younger... I could have rucked 20K in 1.5 hours when I was 20 - LOL ;-)
And... apparently the slower I get and forget what account I'm using Oh, MAN! Coffee time. Have a good one.
