My Actifit Report Card: January 6 2020 + What I did today

Today, Stella and I went for a much shorter walk than we have been lately. I also didn’t work today, so I didn’t end up getting in all that many steps. I did have a job interview that went pretty well, however.

It was actually with a staffing agency, and I was almost tempted to leave when I first got there. It seemed like a sketchy place, complete with bulletproof glass. Once I got into the back, past the bulletproof glass and locked doors (the place was near a rough area of town), it was a good and “normal” (whatever that means) experience. I’ve got another interview on Wednesday for a specific job that actually sounds like it might be cool.

What else did I do today… let’s see. I took a flat iron steak I didn’t really want to eat as a steak and decided to grind it up into ground / minced beef. I actually have a meat grinder attachment for a Kitchenaid mixer I was gifted a while back. The mixer came from a family friend, and the attachment came from my mother. That's the best way to get kitchen gadgets!

Until today, the only thing I'd ever used the attachment for was to grind up soaked chickpeas for making falafel. I no longer eat anything like that, but it worked well for that purpose. It was one of the first times I ever successfully made falafel. I don't eat seeds or beans ever now, though.

So, using the meat grinder for its intended purpose was long overdue. I cut up the steak into cubes and put it in the freezer until it was firm but not totally frozen. I also cut up some bacon into about 1-2" pieces and put that in the same container with the cut-up steak in the fridge.

Grinding it was easy, and it turned out great. I turned the ground beef into burger patties and had that for my first meal of the day. The result tasted like bacon burgers, but the bacon never falls off because it's ground up into the beef. I will definitely be doing this again in the future, and I also want to make some beef with some organs like liver, kidney, or heart mixed in.
