NCAA bowl weekend and basketball games

Today is when the college bowl games really kick into high gear. Because of the holidays, I am calling it an early day and I am leaving work at 1 so I can be home by 3:20 EST for the Michigan State/Wake Forest game. I want to believe that MSU is going to win, but as I have said countless times, you just never know which team is going to show up.

If you had to pick a single bowl game to watch today, I would probably direct you towards the Holiday Bowl with Iowa facing USC. That has the potential to be a really good game with two top twenty-five teams going head to head.

Vegas has the odds on Iowa, and I would tend to lean that way as well, but USC looks to be a decent team with a historic program. It could be a real battle.

If you love college football, Saturday is the day you really want to tune in. The two playoff games are happening with Clemson facing Ohio State and Oklahoma facing LSU. The winner of each of those games will meet up in the college football championship. It is refreshing to not seen Alabama in that mix for once.

On top of all that, we also get Memphis taking on Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. That should be an epic game as well. Both teams have less than 3 losses on the whole season and they are both in really good conferences. Penn State is the favorite, but it is another one that could be up in the air.

If you get tired of college football, there are some good college basketball games on Saturday as well. Check out Louisville at Kentucky in the early afternoon. That should be a really great in-state rivalry game. I am sure @patrickulrich will be tuning in or recording it.

Most of the other basketball games on Saturday are cupcake games for the top 25 teams.

Sunday will be more of the same with the big matchup being West Virginia vs. Ohio State. I am hoping to maybe see some more upsets of ranked teams this weekend as long as it isn't my #14 Michigan State Spartans when they take on Western Michigan.
