Are NFL Refs on the Take?

Personally, I don't think it is anything quite so sinister, but I do think that there is some obvious bias going on with certain teams.

As a Lions fan you have probably seen write numerous posts on how Detroit got shafted by the officials time after time. It makes me feel a little better to see that Carolina can feel our pain after a travesty of a game against Green Bay.

It is actually funny that it was against Green Bay, because that is one of the Lions opponents that the officials have consistently shown bias for.

In the end, I think we can all agree that just like everything else, it all comes down to money. Not so much that the refs are getting paid on the side, but the fact that Green Bay is one of the largest franchises with a huge fan base across the country.

It is wholly in the best interest of the NFL pocketbooks to make sure that one of their cash cow teams is doing well. Even if it is at the expense of any other team that they face off against (except maybe the Cowboys or the Pats).

I know a lot of you are going to say something about the fact that Carolina went for two when they shouldn't have. That may be entirely true, but when you are a coach who knows the calls are probably going to go against you, you might be willing to try anything.

The roughing the passer call against Carolina was clearly a sham. The sad thing is the whole country knows it. Go on any message board with a recap of the game and you will see an overwhelming number of comments to support the claim of official bias.

The final call of the game was pretty telling as well. The ball clearly crossed the plane of the end zone, yet the officials denied the chance for overtime and the game was finished.

As I said, the Green Bay fan base is so large that it will never be in the best interest of the NFL or any other authority to look into this the way it should be.

Just remember, if you are sitting in your easy chair on a Sunday watching some football, the results have probably already been predetermined before the game. Unless the opposing team is good enough to take the game out of the hands of the officials, it will fall a certain way every time.
