The Titans, the Luckless Colts and a New Foe: AFC South Review

It wasn’t long ago some bloke by the name of Pat McAfee said at the NFL draft, “Hello Nashville, I’m not going to say a single word about the Tennessee Titans record against the Indianapolis Colts because I was a punter, and there is no reason for me to talk about that. With that being said, we did not punt much against the Tennessee Titans, so you probably have no clue who I am to begin with.”

Suck sh!7 to the Colts. When Andrew luck announced his retirement from the NFL I couldn’t help but smile. Even though it was more than a week ago I’m still smiling. Where are you now Patrick? Let’s take a look at how the AFC South and the might Titans are shaping up :-

Jacoby Brissett now has to pick up the pieces after Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement. Although Brissett was an excellent backup, Luck was a totally different level to what he offers as the starting QB.

When Luck missed the entire 2017, Brissett and the Colts went 4-12. Although there is a great receiving corps and promising young defence coming out of Indianapolis compared to back then, the Colts will have a lot to do to remain competitive in the AFC South.

The Texans currently have no General Manager and coach Bill O’Brien is under immense pressure this season.

Jadeveon Clowney was traded to the Seattle Seahawks which is great news for all AFC offences however Houston should be fine with J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus tormenting offences.

On the offensive side the Texans have prodigy Deshaun Watson and one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in DeAndre Hopkins. A season ending injury to Lamar Miller has weakened them heavily and they are now short of running back options.

Jacksonville has finally got it’s quarterback which should worry the rest of the AFC South. The Jaguars and Nick Foles won’t be an easy beat.

A lot will come down to running back Leonard Fournette and how he plays. As they showed us last season, they can quite easily go off the rails. It’ll be very interesting to see how they go now that they’ve got rid of Blake Bortles.

As good as Foles has showed us he can be, he has a lot less talent on offence to work with than he did at the Eagles. His enormous contract will also put a burden on him with the heavy expectations on his shoulders.

Despite our own issues at quarterback I’m a massive Marcus Mariota fan. I’m probably the biggest Titans fan in Australia. Despite Mariota’s critics I believe he is the future.

Ryan Tannehill will ride the bench – Mariota has too much upside. The competition will do us the world of good and I have no doubt will bring the best out in Marcus.

As long as he stays healthy he has a long and prosperous future at the Titans. Just remember how many game winning drives he’s led.

The last two seasons we’ve gotten to 9-7 even with a horror injury run and we’ve got one of the best running back duos in the league with Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis.

The Titans defence last season ranked 8th in total yards allowed, 6th in passing yards allowed and finished 3rd in defensive scoring.
