For portrait Drawings it could be so overwhelming especially for beginners but its okay, its only normal.

  • Make A Choice

First of all decide on which medium will work with you. There are thousands of mediums to explore with, it could be pen, pencils, brushes, paper, canvas, walls. Anyone that you feel okay with or you are conservant with will do.

Gather all your materials and find a suitable and comfortable place to sit or lie on. I work better on my desks, lying down will only mess my work up. You could also turn on the music, this will keep you relaxed and refreshed

  • Start sketching

There are people who are great with imaginary drawings, personally i suck at it. So get a reference photo or do it imaginary. Well, if its a commissioned work, you might wana get ya reference because any slight mistake, the client will frown at your work.

Follow the bacic shapes on the face as you scribble down your sketch. Use all methods of meaurement you can to get Ya sketch right. A sketch is the main foundation of the whole work, if it is faulty, the whole work is a mess.

  • Adding Detials

If you satisfied with the sketch. Begin to build ya details. To create depth:- apply pressure the tip of the pen or pencil and it will make that area darker. To create highlights:- simply apply less or no pressure to the tip of the pen. Tge nose, forehead and cheeks are usually the points of highlights but everything depends on the direction of the source of the light

Follow it up carefully, strike your pen/pencil slowly across the surface, mistales are inevital, so try to relax. Its okay if you make a mistake. It can be rectified. Eraser will go for pencils and a design will coverup for inks.

Rome wasn't built in a day, so depending on the size of the work and the time you spent on it. It can take days to finish a work of art. I have spent close to eight days on a piece before. So no rushing, take ya time.

Keep your background simple and ensure to pay close attention to areas like the eyes, lips, nose, and hair. Any wrong move and your drawing appears flat and lifeless.
