Michigan State v. Oakland University on 12/14

Every year when this match-up takes place for the Michigan State basketball team I always get a little apprehensive. Part of me is a little excited because this game is one of the last ones they play before conference play begins. On the other hand, what should be a fairly routine game and victory for the Spartans always ends up being a tight contest.

Over the past several months we have seen Michigan State move from being ranked first in the nation to 16th. Meanwhile their in-state rivals the Wolverines have jumped up to 5th. Don't think that hasn't gone unnoticed by the Spartans.

The Golden Grizzlies of Oakland have had a rough start to the season at 5 wins and 5 losses. I am not sure how tough their schedule has been, but Oakland is usually a pretty decent team from the Horizon League. The campus is just down the road from the Palace where the Pistons used to play. Sadly, they recently began demolition on the Palace and this game is going to be played at the new Little Caesars Arena.

I have a feeling Michigan State will come away with the win on this one, but I am really hesitant to make any predictions about how this one is going to go.

Unless they are having a really great season and get to the big dance (NCAA Tournament), this is probably the biggest game that Oakland will play all season. That is usually why it is really tough. Between them bringing their 'A' game and Michigan States propensity for turning the ball over and sloppy play, you never quite know what the outcome is going to be.

This is definitely a game I will be tuning in for around Noon on Saturday.
