NCAA Top 25 Blood Bath

Last night was pretty rough for the ranked teams that had games. Of the seven games played last night only three of them resulted in the ranked team winning.

I actually feel a bit bad for @patrickulrich, it is possible I jinxed him by saying that his Kentucky Wildcats should have a pretty easy win last night. That didn't seem to be the case though. South Carolina took care of #10 Kentucky with a three point victory.

With a record going into the game of 11-4, I am kind of surprised that Virginia is not ranked in the top twenty five. Either way, you can see they lost to #9 Florida State.

Georgetown over Creighton isn't that surprising given their records. The Hoya's came into the game at 11-6 and Creighton is sitting at 13-4. This was going to be a fairly even matchup whether one of the teams was in the top 25 or not.

Baylor easily took care of Iowa State, not much to talk about there.

These last two games are really interesting:

Wichita State was 15-1 going into their match up and Auburn was 15-0. Those are some pretty impressive records given the way things have been going this season with NCAA basketball. Then consider the fact that Temple was 9-6 and Alabama was 8-7 on the year.

That makes it pretty impressive that they were both able to beat their opponents by such a significant amount. I have no doubt the fact that playing for the home crowd was a definite advantage for each of them. Much like the implosion of Michigan State vs. Purdue last weekend it is likely this was just an anomaly by these ranked teams.

One thing is for certain, we should see a very different top 25 next week!

I look forward to talking to my brother in law this weekend and discussing whether or not the teams are just that evenly matched this year or if the ranking system is just crap.
