Any attempt is better than no attempt.

It's not always easy to find a topic to write about but that is no excuse not to write at all.

Just the dedication of sitting down and creating a post is a worthwhile endeavor and part of becoming a full time writer on hive or in any other site.

Just taking any small steps daily will help you to achieve an end goal even if it seems too big to accomplish at the start.

I made the mistake last week of agreeing to join a hurling team while drinking Guinness in the pub. Now for anybody that knows the game of hurling it's the fastest field game in the world.

30 lads, big sticks and small balls makes for a tough and lightening fast game to play.

A few of us Irish people have posted about it in the past so you might have come across the sport from time to time but it is not an easy game to play and it's especially not an easy game to pick up at 36 years of age.

Luckily the guys in the video are at the top of the game and nothing like the Junior C team that i was recruited into. It's more like Sunday league soccer with beer bellies and pints after.

Well maybe not this extreme either but somewhere in the middle.

So as a player who can't run and can't play the game it seems like a terrible call in the cold light of day but the manager has signed me up to the team and the club so i have to show up for training on Friday now.

So with that i dusted off my wife's exercise bike for the first time in a long time and started the first small steps to getting fit again.

Just like writing if it seems like a huge task then break it down into small steps and just get going. Anything is better than nothing so I did 8k yesterday, and 5k today with a few skills against the wall. I plan to do the same tomorrow before my first training session even though the others started a few weeks ago.

A long way from being competitive but a start at least.
If i can keep up the dedication daily for a while it should bridge the fitness gap at least whatever about the skills one.

Is 36 too old for a sporting debut???
I guess we will have to see in a few weeks if i can stick it or run away scared.

I did pick up some cheap gear on amazon yesterday which arrived already so i'm all set to get out there and give it a go.

I don't think 36 is too old. Also, we can book you to wrestle on our first wrestling show haha. Have you had a chance to take a look at our proposal? We would love your support as we are very close to completing the funding round. Please consider it here: https://peakd.com/me/proposals/346

Loved this post it’s a great reminder that starting is often the hardest part, whether it's writing or jumping into a new sport at 36! 😄 Your attitude is inspiring, and honestly, showing up and trying is already a win, Looking forward to hearing how training goes you’ve got this!
