Hugo Alfredo “Dinamita” Santillan, the 23 year old Argentinian boxer died on Thursday. He had a match with the Uruguayan Eduardo Javier Abreu in Buenos Aires. Hugo's nose started to bleed during the match but he carried on and finished the match which was a tie and then fainted. He was rushed to the hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the ring.

Last Friday the 28 year old Russian boxer called Maxim Kaibkhanovich Dadashev had the same faith. He died after a match with Subriel Matias from Puerto Rico also due to the injuries he got during the match.

I know there were times when slaves were entertaining emperors by fighting opponents in the arena specially built for these activities. These slaves had only one chance, to be the best in order to stay alive as the fight finished only when one of the participants was dead. So basically it was Kill or be killed.

This however is 2019 and things have changed. These fights are not for their lives, boxing supposed to be a sport that people can enjoy. Boxing is categorized as sport and has a set of rules that must be respected.

Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring.
The result is decided when an opponent is deemed incapable to continue by a referee, is disqualified for breaking a rule, or resigns by throwing in a towel. source

These matches were played according to the rules, two people died and no one is responsible for their death. Is that still sport? Can you call that sport? I can't! I'm a peaceful person and can't stand violence. Box is violence, no one can deny that. I admit, these are not usual cases as thank God, death is not an everyday thing but even so, after the fight boxers need medical attention. Some of the wounds will heal over the time but those paunches that one accumulated during his carrier can have long term concequences.
