Bozzlife: Gone Fishing

This past weekend my buddy Mike and I decided to get away for a day and do some fishing. Usually we take a whole weekend and spend that time camping and fishing, but our schedules just didn't work out this year.

It is probably for the best, it has been a crazy Summer and spending a whole weekend on the water just wouldn't be practical, as nice as it sounds!

We did some research and we decided to try out luck at Sage Lake. Compared to the lakes that surround Michigan, it is a pretty small lake. It does have three decent sized islands within the lake, so that makes it pretty cool. Each of the islands have power running to them allowing owners to have some relatively nice houses.

Mike lives about a half hour North West of me and Sage Lake is another hour and fifteen minutes North East of him. We picked it because it is a little out of the way, but still close enough that we wouldn't be spending all day just to get there. Neither of us had ever fished on the lake before, so that was another deciding factor.

We pulled up to the boat launch and got ready to move his pontoon boat into the water when we he quickly realized the battery was dead. With the battery dead there was no way to raise the motor to get it off the trailer. We secured it back down and headed to an auto parts store about fifteen minutes away to buy a new battery.

Half an hour of our fishing time blown, we finally got the boat into the water and set off to find some keepers. The fish were definitely biting and it wasn't long before I had hauled in ten to fifteen fish.

Unfortunately, they were all just about this size. We had three in our keeper basket that we were thinking about using as bait for some bigger fish in the deep water, but eventually, we just gave up and threw them back.

Oh yeah, after I caught the first fish that we were going to use as bait, I went to put it in the live well, only to have Mike find out that the hose from the pump to the well to fill the well had been broken off. I feel bad because as much as we didn't catch any good fish, it was an even worse day for Mike.

Despite the outcome, I can still say it was a good day. We at least caught something and we got to spend some time together out on the water. No matter how many things go wrong, that is never a bad thing.

He really took it all in stride. I think the battery was original to the boat. It was the pump that he was more upset about.

I come from a family of keen fishermen and hubby also loves fishing so I understand just how relaxing a pastime this is even if the fish don't bite or like on your trip, only the baby fish come iut to play;) There's always a next time not so!

I hope so! It probably won't be until next year now though. Especially with school starting next week...

That weren't very big fish, but well... As long as you had fun. I should do that more often myself, just a weekend for me with some friends camping or fishing :) Great post @bozz , thanks !!

No, that aspect of it was pretty disappointing... It would have been nice to catch at least enough to fry up for dinner.

I grew up on the Atlantic with a crew of fishermen for brothers. All six of them and my dad too. I loved fishing and clamming and scalloping. Oh, yes, a truly relaxing day for sure!

Despite all the setback, still, you and Mike had that man bonding thing going on!

Perhaps next time with a bit of luck the fish will be bigger and things won't go wrong, Murphy's law when you looking forward to a short break... things can go haywire.

At least it was a pretty lake with good company!
