Basic Front Kick - Self Defense

When you fight for self defense, you can always use your longest weapon, AKA legs to kick the attackers. Before practicing kick, do the warm-up. Then you are ready to move on.

To do a front kick, stand in a wide stance. Shift the weight of the leg to the other leg. Raise your leg to the front. Now extend your leg and kick with the heel of your foot. Get your leg back and put your leg to the ground the way you raise your leg first.

Okay, this is not the way my instructor taught me to do a front kick. And I hit with the ball of the foot, not the heel of the foot.

There is a little variation of front kicks in different martial arts. So the way you are taught to do front kicks, that's absolutely okay. You can hit with the ball of the foot. And you can also hit with the heel of the foot. If you are used to doing front kick with the ball of your foot, you can try to hit with the heel of your foot. You will see the difference.

You can do front kicks to snap, thrust or push and hit the attacker seriously. You can kick the attacker fast and make him stop from moving forward.

If you do Muay Thai, you know very well how to use a front kick to push your opponent and make the distance. So can you use front kicks to make the distance?

Yes, you can. Controlling distance is very important. You can push your opponent with your hands, or you can do a front kick to push him. Then you can go for another strike. When you do front kicks, after hitting the target, get back your leg pretty fast. Otherwise, your opponent can catch your leg. So don't let anyone grab your leg.

You can hit the attacker seriously with a front kick. When you use the heel of your foot to do front kicks, you can do more damage. Please use reasonable force to kick. You do not want to hurt someone seriously who does not mean to hurt you pretty bad.
