No matter where you live, which martial art you practice, you know Bruce Lee. Many people are inspired by Bruce Lee. Then they want to learn martial art. Not only martial arts but people are also inspired by Bruce Lee and start doing workouts.

Martial Art was there before Bruce Lee. He showed the world the beauty of martial art and introduced a new way of fighting in movies. You are impressed by his moves, fighting style, speed, power, and techniques.

Are you wondering which martial art he started learning first?

At the beginning of his career, Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun. Yip Man AKA IP Man was his teacher. That's his foundation.

Wing Chun is one of the most effective martial arts for self defense. Many people around the world practice this martial art. They call it Wing Chun System. Later, Bruce Lee learned other martial arts. He created Jeet Kune Do - the Way of the Intercepting Fist.

If you are too restricted and cannot move freely, that's a problem. You can use that is useful and effective, if something is not effective, discard that and you can add something that is on your own. As Bruce Lee said,

"Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own."
-- Bruce Lee

When you fight for self defense, you might face a new situation that you have never seen before. That time you have to adapt to that, make your move that is effective in that situation. You learned a martial art, you fight in a certain way, it does not mean you cannot change, adapt a new thing and apply that in self defense.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.
-- Bruce Lee

If you see from the outside, martial art seems kicking and punching. As a matter of fact, martial art is not just kicking and punching, it is more than that. Martial art is a way of life. It can teach you many valuable lessons that you can use in your life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you like martial art for self defense or personal development, you can check out some of my recent posts.
