Welcome back to Self Defense Situation - What Do You Do? - Part 23. In this series of posts, we talk about different situations and how you can defend yourself in that situation. If you have not read the last post of this series, you can read that now.
What I talk about self defense and suggest to do something or not to do something, it is from self defense perspective. We see different moves in movies; it looks fantastic. What you see in a fight when you watch movies, that's for entertainment. You see different fancy stuff, that's cool! I also like to watch that.
When you are in a situation where you have to fight for self defense, that is totally different. You will not do something to show off. You will only make those moves that you can save your life. It is a different mindset. And your strike and defense should be focusing on protecting yourself.
Let's watch this video. All video credit goes to chintya candranaya.
From 0:52 to 1:10 Minutes
The attacker grabs the girl's shoulder from behind. She moves, turns, and does elbow strike. The way she does it, that's impressive. It is practical. Then she kicks him. You can take a look at her kick again [0:59 Minutes]. The attacker can easily attack her the way she kicks. Her back is exposed. She is very close to the attack while doing kick.
So should you use this kick for self defense?
In a normal situation, it is better not to do this kick. However, if the attacker grabs you, you can do this kick as a defense. It is up to the situation. But you do not like to do this kick in every situation because the attacker can strike you very easily.
From 1:11 to 2:11 Minutes
When you are in a fight for self defense, you might not want to do flying kicks. When you are on air, the attacker can move and attack or make you move in another direction. If there is a situation where you find flying kick is more effective, you do that. When you kick the attackers, and they fall on the ground, you will attack them more or get out of there. You will not stand there in a fighting stance, I think.
You can see in movies that kicking, tuning, and doing kick with the same leg (2:07 Minutes). If you kick fast, still, the attacker gets the time to attack. There is no need to kick, turn, and kick with the same leg. You can attack directly. I made a post about Spinning Kick - Does It Work For Self Defense?. To learn more; you can read that.
