Spinning Back Fist - Does It Work For Self Defense?

You can do different strikes for self defense such as palm strike, punch, hammer fist, chop, elbow strike, knee charge, kick and so on. Today we are going to talk about spinning back fist. To do spinning back fist, you have to turn and hit with your back fist.

If you learn martial arts for acting on movies. you can use different spinning strikes. It looks good. We usually see the spinning kick, spinning back fist and different strikes. When you want movies, we love to enjoy it. The main focus on movies is entertainment. There might be some exceptions if the movie is made based on history or for a specific purpose.

When you fight in fighting competition, you know which strikes are allowed and where you can or cannot hit. You have to follow the rules, otherwise, you will be disqualified. You usually do not see something unfair in a fighting competition.

When you fight for self defense, it is totally different. You do not want to be a champion or want to entertain others. All you want to protect yourself. Since there are no rules, anything could happen in the fight. So you want to use something that is effective to defend yourself.

You can do spinning back fist, but when you do this, you are exposing your back to the attacker. And this is something you do not want to happen. The attacker can attack you at the time of turning to do spinning back fist.

You can opponent can block your hand and start attacking you right away. Or, he can defend and grab your hands. Then he can use your energy against you by pulling and throwing you in another direction.

You can say that you will do spinning back fist with other stirks like punches. If you do that, it looks less obvious. Still, your opponent can see your move and counter-attack. So it is better not to do spinning back in a street fight.
