Was New Zealand robbed of the Cricket World Cup title?

The final of the Cricket World Cup over the weekend was regarded by many people as the best Cricket ODI match ever! But it was a game full of drama and controvercy. Over the past couple of days, the focus has been on whether the overthrow in the third last ball of England’s innings should have been 5 runs instead of 6. What happened was that the throw from New Zealander Martin Guptill hit Ben Stokes’ bat and went to the boundary for 4 overthrows. England was awarded 6 runs. However, in reviewing the law, it appeared as though they should have only gotten 5 runs because when Guptill threw the ball, the England batsmen had not yet crossed for the second run.

This meant that the game should have played out differently. Although it is arguable that England would have approached the last 2 balls differently if they were only awarded 5 runs for the overthrow. Moreover, we wouldn’t have had the specticle we enjoyed if in fact they were only awarded 5 runs. So although New Zealand was probably hard done by, it was overall a gift to Cricket the way the game played out.

The cricket and beauty in the game will always provide an interesting spectacle for the entire audience, that's even though sometimes the property belongs to one party, maybe today they are better
