Indonesia kembali dikalahkan oleh Malaysia untuk kedua kalinya selama berlangsunya Kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2022. Salah satu yang menyumbang gol untuk Harimau Malaya adalah 

Muhammad Safawi bin Rasid.

Namun pemain Timnas Malaysia, berusia 22 tahun justru tak dimainkan saat SEA Games 2019 nanti di Manila, Filipina. Hal ini karena pelatih Malaysia telah mencoret namanya dari daftar pemain SEA Games Malaysia.


Alasannya, menurut pelatih Timnas Malaysia U-23, Ong Kim Swee, Safawi butuh waktu beristirahat setelah memperkuat tim senior.
