Times are changing; as is the officiating in the game of football these days. It is gradually becoming the norm, to see very brave women officiate top games in Europe's elite leagues.

And it can only get even better with time, as more ladies get encouraged by new developments and policies in UEFA's officiating system to take up officiating roles in big European games.

The French referee Stephanie Frappart who officiated the final of the Women's World Cup back in July; along with her team of assistant referees Manuela Nicolosi of Italy and Michelle O'Neill from the Republic of Ireland, have been chosen to take charge of European Football's curtain raiser for the 2019/2020 football season.

The winners of last season's Champions League title, Liverpool, would face off against the Europa League winners, Chelsea, on Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup; and the three female referees will be on duty in the fixture in historic fashion.

The French official Stephanie Frappart who will be the center referee, says she will have no fears when she becomes the first woman to take charge of the Uefa Super Cup.

And I do believe that having handled other big games in the French league, it is safe to say that Stephanie Frappart will very well cope in big European games without pressure.

As she is set to officiate the European Super Cup fixture between Liverpool and Chelsea; alongside Manuela Nicolosi of Italy and Michelle O'Neill from the Republic of Ireland; Turkish male referee Cuneyt Cakir will be the fourth official during the game that will take place in his home city of Istanbul.

While the issue of the female referees may not be much of the talking point; as compared to the world hoping to see how Chelsea and Frank Lampard will fare against the fascinating Liverpool side who have began the season superbly, the match will definitely put a lot of things in perspective as we get set for another fantastic season of European football.
