As usual Real Madrid were looking for a new Galacticos at the time and James simply ticked all the right boxes to be the next superstar in the round leather game. Without much hesitation Los Blancos splashed out $70 million for the young playmaker.

However Rodriguez stay at Bernebeu has been nothing but normal with him struggling to hold down first team spot. He has been sidelined continually by successive coaches from Mourinho to Zinedine Zidane. He has an eye for a pass and is good technically but may offer little in defense.

He has been sent on loans to different clubs among which are German Giants Bayern Munich but he has not being able to replicate his form at Porto and Monaco. Madrid seems to have more than enough players in the midfield and his currently holding out for a few of €50 million from any willing club. No one is willing to meet the transfer fee at the moment and the former Monaco man might find himself on a season long loan again.

Either way the young pretender to the throne of Carlos Valderrama has found himself surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernebeu.
