This is the first time that FIFA takes such severe measures with one of its confederations.

FIFA and the African Football Confederation (CAF) signed on Thursday an "unprecedented" agreement by which the highest football agency will audit the finances and accelerate "the process of reforms" of the African body during the next six months.

"Today, at the CAF General Assembly held in Cairo, both organizations signed a protocol outlining a roadmap (..) with which FIFA will provide its experience to assess the current situation of the CAF and help accelerate the reform processes that are underway, "FIFA said in a statement.

With these measures, FIFA intends to review the financial administration of the CAF, improve the format of the competitions and develop the commercial opportunities of African football.

On the financial side, FIFA will carry out a general audit of the administration and internal processes to ensure the transparency of the CAF's finances.

In the same way, the road map focuses on improving the efficiency and impartiality of the judicial bodies of the African body.

FIFA will select a group of experts who will evaluate "the current situation of the CAF" and implement the roadmap in "close collaboration" with the FIFA general secretary, the Senegalese Fatma Samoura - since August 1, general delegate of the FIFA for the CAF- and the general secretary of the CAF Mouad Hajji.

"It will help the African football reforms and move forward!" Assured CAF president Ahmad Ahmad on his official Twitter account after the formalization of the protocol.

This is the first time that FIFA takes such severe measures with one of its confederations.

On June 20, 24 hours before the start of the African Cup, FIFA announced that it would assume control of the CAF starting in August amid accusations of corruption in the largest confederation in world football with a total of 54 affiliated national associations.

The announcement was the first direct consequence after the French prosecutor's office arrested and interrogated Ahmad for 24 hours on the 5th of June, after attending the FIFA meeting in Paris, of which, as head of African football, he is vice president.

At the beginning of June, the president of the CAF was arrested and interrogated in France for an alleged case of corruption.

After the scandal, FIFA issued a statement in which it claimed to have "taken note of the events related to Mr. Ahmad Ahmad, questioned about accusations related to his mandate as president of the CAF."

The French Public Prosecutor's Office investigates a case of corruption, breach of trust and falsification after the signature in December 2017 by the CAF of a contract with the Puma brand for the supply of equipment for the previous African Cup of 2018, which subsequently It was not fulfilled by the African agency.
