Eddie Nketiah Does it again: LEEDS UNITED 1 Brentford City 0

And there he was. In the right place at the right time to sidefoot a perfect squared in ball by Helder Costa straight into the net past a hapless Brentford goalie.

Eddie Nketiah, first League appearance as a late substitute and first goal to add to his only other appearance in the League Cup against Salford Cty last week in which he also scored.

Suddenly, Arsenal fans are Leeds fans. In the crowd at Elland Road, last night was none other than Arsenal legend Ian Wright and as you can see from the clip, he went wild. Wrighty is now officially Leeds!!

Ian Wright learning how to; 'Let's go fucking mental Na Nah Nah Nah' Leeds style!

In the wider Arsenal blogosphere and on twitter, Leeds are getting a lot of interest because of this young, 20-year-old Londoner. It looks like the rumours were right. He is special and has an incredible future in front of him and it's been a masterstroke by Leeds, and a leap of faith by Arsenal that has brought him to Elland Road, even if for one season.

It had been a hard night last night and we were struggling to make a breakthrough against a valiant Brentford defence which was of course led by Leeds former hero and now Brentford Captain, Pontus Janssen, (Yes Brentford, you can even have the 'Brick on the head' song! ) and it took a late and inspired decision to make a double substitution to bring on Nketiah and other Leeds new bot, Helder Costa to link up and bring us that all-important winning goal that put us back on top of the Championship.

The first half had been a bit poor. Few clear chances and Brentford doing their level best to peg us back and neutralise the game. They had come for a draw it seemed and were throwing everyone back and sitting deep in their own half. It was all a little subdued and not until the second half began did Leeds ramp up the pressure and tempo and really start asking Brentford questions.

It's interesting that he was brought on for Hernadez and not a straight swap for the more obvious choice, Bamford. Eddie can work as either an attacking midfielder or striker but for me, and seeing his instinct in front of goal and his positioning, he is all out striker but not having a direct creative attacking midfielder to replace Hernadez, I suppose having Eddie fulfil this role is a good thing. Pablo is the greatest, but he is 34!

As a Leeds fan, I want the pair of them to start on Saturday, away against Stoke, the first of two games against Stoke in 3 days as we also play them at home in the Carabao Cup the following Tuesday. Stoke worry me. They are bottom of the table with only 1 point from 4 games and they are due a win. Hopefully not for a couple of weeks though!

I suppose it's difficult to continue to berate Bamford after scoring 3 goals but I will! Another sitter missed last night and again, I point to the amazing possession figure again and see that we are creating the chances but not putting them away which is why Nketiah is so important to use but I suppose, must be handled cautiously and patiently in these early parts of the season. If we can keep getting the points, it might be prudent to increase his usage later in the season when the older legs are getting weary.

The other argument is though, bag as many points as we can before March and put us way out in front and if no one can catch us by then, it doesn't matter if we fall apart in the last 6 weeks of the season!

For now though, here are the highlight so enjoy and marvel at the speed and pace of the team and the clinical blow from Eddie Nketiah!

We are looking good and have the team capable of taking this league. After last season, the bar has been set higher and for most Leeds fans, myself included, we want to come top of the league, not just get promoted but come top by a big margin which of course will set us up full of confidence for the following season back in the Premiership where we truly belong!

Nice one the from Eddie Nketiah, I think that was a superb goal. I expect to see more of his wizardry when it comes to goal scoring for the rest of the season.

I am officially Leeds now too and I look forward to your next post on RealityHubs.

Thanks. It was a great finish. A really mature cool head on the young fella. Top-quality. Weare all very excited up at Leeds and very grateful to Arsenal for trusting us with him. Last year we had two Chelsea loanees who were absolutely rubbish and Chelsea were furious with Leeds for not playing them!
