A goal in only the 1st minute of the Afcon 2019 final match was enough to gift Algeria Africa’s most prestigious trophy. Baghdad’s strike got a deflection from Sane, a Senegalese defender to force the ball to loop over Alfred Gomis, the Senegalese keeper to drop into the net. This was the quickest goal ever recorded in a final of Africa Cup of Nations.

It took Algeria victory over Senegal twice in this competition to lift it’s 2nd Afcon title after 29 years. The first encounter was in the group stages when Algeria beat Senegal by the same goal margin, 1-0. This is one of the many ways Algeria proved how exceptional it was in this tournament. They won all their encounters in open play conceding just twice and scoring a magnificent 13 goals.

Congratulations to Mahrez and his team for etching their names among the African greats and Congratulations to Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi for guiding Alegeria to their 2nd Afcon title
