Daddy and Daughter do Dumbells

Technically, that is a barbellin the picture - but you get the idea. As I wrote yesterday, it is time to do something and today was the day I enlisted my daughter to help.

We have a small, poorly equipped gym in our building, but it is going to be good enough to fit what I need it for in the early days. There isn't enough weight for a heavy workout by far, though there is enough to get done high reps in, something that I need to get my joints in better condition for lifting later.

This was the second workout for my daughter today, as she visited the "weights room" with my wife while I was at work. She seems to enjoy it and she spent her evening session on the heavy bag.

Jumping up and touching it that is. She is an active girl and I want to support her too stay that way. Part of it is role-modelling, part of it is encouraging her to try - and try again if she fails. She is good at that and you will hear her say things like

it doesn't matter, everyone falls over sometimes.

Even when she is bleeding.

She eats a cavegirl diet because of her allergies and she has more strength in her than most. Determination and persistence are important traits for success, especially when things are difficult. We have largely grown soft in the world we have created, other than our hearts that have hardened and now see humans as increasingly disposable when they serve no purpose for our immediate needs.

I liked working out with her today and it felt Daddyish to hear her say, "Mummy couldn't lift that". She asked if we can go again tomorrow and I hope she reminds me daily as I think it would be great to have her as my training partner as she is a big reason I should get in better condition than I am now.

The workout itself was not great but I did enough that I can feel it. It was my second workout for the day too as I did a 10 minute session with colleagues in the parknear workafter lunch. Soon, I will be in competition condition.

the same "soon" as when Steem realizes its potential.

But, it has been a good start to the movement movement I am attempting as I can feel the changes in my body and thinking already and now that I have forced myself into a couple sessions, I am looking forward to the next with enthusiasm, rather than dread.

The head is where we are made or broken and often, the difference between success and failure is attitude. Tenacity is a trait ghat few seem to have these days, nor is patience. What I have noticed is that many of the people in business considered successful, are often also fit these days. The fat, rich man has been replaced by the fit, rich man.

I think the movement of the body helps the movement of the mind and the ability to willingly be uncomfortable for gains is part of the key to success in many things.

we all fall over sometimes.

It is whether we get back up that matters.

Good to see you taking it seriously and lifting things mummy can't. I should have started today as well but I have been too busy and will get to it. The gym room needs to be sorted out first which is a work out on it's own.

The only skill I really ever had is the ability to lift heavy things, I better make sure I don't become completely redundant.

We are doing some very late spring cleaning here this week too. Trying to make some more space for @smallsteps to play.

Smallsteps is very wise... Everyone does fall over sometimes. I hope she continues to cheer you on!

I hope so too because, I think I have to work out harder in front of her :D

Exercise is always more fun with company - and probably terrific with your daughter :)
Great to see you're getting back to the weights. Healthy body means a healthier brain, so it's no wonder if business men are fit. Sort of no-brainer really since it's literally part of our body.

Yep. The founder of the company I work for is fit as hell and if you want a long conversation, you better be ready to run 30k. One of the quickest thinkers I have known is Stubb, he is sharp AF - regardless what you think of him.

Oh, where did you meet Stubb?

@smallsteps is probably the cutest user of that mini gym for a very long time. Try and take a photo of her jumping and trying to touch the punching bag. :)

She can reach the bag, the issue is she hits it with her head and doesn't seem to mind :D

I like your daughters philosophy. She is right that “the people who are trying” by attempting to move beyond their present limits or capabilities fall down sometimes.

I think Denzel Washington, an American actor said

“If your not failing your not really trying” and followed it up with >“fall forward”.

I guess he meant it’s okay to fail when your moving forward because even a “fall forward” beats no forward movement at all, it is after all progress.

Now that’s positive thinking 😉

too many people rely on their "fallback" positions :)

😆True. Falling backwards appears to be a perfected art, taught by some to children early in their childhood, to prepare them for a life of grumbling about coulda, shoulda and woulda. I say just get shit done.

They will swear they were pushed ... ;D

Motivational stuff. You almost got me off the couch - maybe tomorrow.

I'd love a gym in this building, it wouldn't need to be much at all. Oh well, tomorrow...

I am yet to try that workout you suggested, too scared.

Get some bands, they are pretty good.

And I've not done it for months either - dreading it!

I hear good things about the bands, will see if I can put some pennies together for some when the motivation returns.

Your daughter seems like she's doing most of the heavy lifting but still, kudos on getting back tp weights.

I probably should get back to them too, I tend to use my fast metabolism as an excuse to slack off but right now he's turning out to be my worst enemy.
