Italian GP qualification results

Lewis Hamilton won the pole position for the Italian Grand Prix after becoming the fastest in qualifying, with a time of one minute 18.887 seconds which became a new record at the Monza Circuit. Valtteri Bottas secured the two leading lines for Mercedes after 0.069 seconds of her team-mate's record time.

Carlos Sainz found his best results in qualifying this season by bringing McLaren to third place with 0.8 seconds difference from the Mercedes duet which is still too tough this season, according to the official Formula 1 website. Sergio Perez will start alongside the Spaniard by car. Racing Point.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen is 0.9 seconds adrift of the top of the session and will start from P5 ahead of another McLaren racer, Lando Norris. Daniel Ricciardo is the last rider to be less than a second away from Mercedes and will start at P7 in front of the second Racing Point driven by Lance Stroll.

In the second Red Bull car, Alexander Albon will start P9 in front of the AlphaTauri duo Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat. Unlike last year, this year's Q3 qualifying session did not see riders waiting for the last minute to steal profits by advancing behind the other riders, taking advantage of the slipstream.

Ahead of qualifying the FIA instructed riders that a minimum record time of one minute 43 seconds per lap is required to prevent riders from slowing down on the track following a number of incidents on the track where Hamilton had to avoid a number of riders at high speed while in FP3. And starting from the Italian GP, riders are only allowed to use one engine mode in both qualifying and racing.
