The outcome of the Euro 2020 finals between England and Italy Left me disappointed, I had expected England to emerge the clear winner but through penalty kicks, Italy won 😏

I saw this happening. I am also sad for the outcome, but we need to take it that way. Italy made it. I'm happy for them.

Yea I was expecting England to win that match. Especially after the first goal because all they needed to do was protect their lead.

I'm happy for Italy. I remember how hard Covid hit there, and everyone shunned the country as if it was their fault. They deserve the victory.

It is day 9 of the Nagoya Sumo tournament. I'm enjoying it!

Any baseball fans? Ohtani is doing so great. I wasn't really a baseball fan until I moved to Japan. Japan is so baseball crazy, that it kind of won me over. I follow Japanese players who go over to MLB in the States. Ohtani has been compared to Babe Ruth since moving to the States because he both pitches and hits and does both remarkably well. I just saw a new article about him: https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/07/05/shohei-ohtani-is-better-than-babe-ruth-the-opener

Even after many years in the States, I just can't get into baseball. Live at the Stadium it's fun, but more for the show and the audience. The sport itself, I don't hate it, but it's just not my thing.

If you think live shows in the States are something, you should see them in Japan. Even after being here for 16 years, I am still completely blown away every time I go to a game. They are always packed, and the cheering and activities blow away anything I ever saw at games in the US.

I wish I could try this experience. I had the chance to visit Japan twice a few years ago (business trips but extended for a bit of tourism), but no baseball.

In Tour de France, today is a rest day.
Yesterday in Andorre, Sepp Kuss won solo. It was the first American win since 2011.
Pogacar did not loose any time on his rivals in the general classification, and has a comfortable 5+ minutes lead. Martin lost lots of time and is now only 9th (2nd at the beginning of the stage)

Wow the first American win since 2011? That sure is a long time and I think Sepp Kuss did a great job.

Yes Americans haven't been doing great in the Tour for a while now. To be honest, I didn't even know Sepp Kuss, but he indeed did very well yesterday. He broke away about 20km for the finish, and resisted Valverde's come back to win the stage.

Wow, that's great. I haven't watched the Tour since the Lance thing. He kind of soured me on the sport. I should get back into it.

I also kind of lost interest when I moved to the US many years ago. At the time, it wasn't that easy to watch it on TV, and streaming was not a thing yet. But now that I work from home, I often have some sport on the TV as a 'background noise'. So I started watching Tour de France again. It changed a lot! Most of the teams are different for instance. But I find it interesting.

I'll have to pay attention again. I don't know if they show it on TV in Japan

This week end, I also discovered a running race that looks like fun: Red Bull 400 in Courchevel. It's short, just 400 meters, but super steep (185 meters vertical climb)! It actually takes place on the ski jump big ramp. And in Courchevel, the Alps scenery is of course great as well. The winner broke the record in 3min20s. Very impressive!

It sounds like a very short little race. I'll see if I can watch a few videos later to see how it looks.

Exactly, very short, but very intense. Some parts are steeper than 35 degrees!

Yea I had a look at it and it looks very tough and it also seems fairly easy to get hurt.

The US national team is not preparing the Olympics well apparently, as they lost a second game against Australia. They are winning pretty easily right now against Argentina though.
In any case, congratulations to the Nigerian team!

Why on earth did the three substitutions for England miss the penalty kick?
Though it appeared from the beginning that those Italians needed the trophy more.

Technically, it sounded like a good idea to get offensive players with fresh legs to replace tired defensive players for the penalty shoot-outs. Unfortunately, this didn't work at all for England. They were all young, and most likely didn't handle the pressure.
And of course, the first reactions were from the dumb racist "supporters". I also read Rashford's mural was vandalized. Like we already discussed, this is very unfortunate that a minority of morons gives all football fans a bad name.

It's so pathetic that racists chants still prevail in places like England. Who know maybe that's why players like Raheem Sterlin, Rashford and others were unable to concentrate.

Anything thing here is that England players played like big boys, they weren'tt as hungry as the Italians.

They're professional players and should have iron mind, but for sure it makes it more difficult, particularly for the younger players.
