Hello guys SCORUM and Sportalk Users, Today I will be talking on this Boxing great, I actually get to watch and know this great Boxing legend on some random YouTube boxing videos, learnt some of his moves, followed his footages, he is a beast, had to look him up on Google and I found out that he was hugely a boxing great as well. He is an American and fights in the light heavyweight, His name is Paul Berlenbach and he is nicknamed the "Assassin Astoria" for the terrible power he had in his fists. Berlenbach was born on February 18,1901, in New York, USA As a child he had Scarlet fever, which left him deaf-mute, and an accidental touch with an electric cable that fell on him, "miraculously" returned his hearing and speech . In 1922/1923 he was the AAU National Heavyweight Wrestling Champion and from then on he will dedicate himself to professional Boxing, in which he would have a great career, even though he started in this sport at the advanced age of 22 years.

He was not a fighter of a high technical level, but he made up for it by his strength, power and endurance. Berlenlach debuted on October 4, 1923, beating Jimmy Roberts [11 (1KO) -35-10] by KO in the first round of eight. The fight took place at the 102nd Medical Regiment Harmory, NY, USA On March 14,1924, with 10 Bouts behind him, all won before the limit, he faces the legendary and future world champion of light heavyweight and Salon Of International Boxing Fame, Canadian Jack Delaney [77 (44KO) -12-2], with whom he lost by KO in the fourth round of 10. The fight took place at Madison Square Garden in NY, USA.

His famous fight was when he defended his next title on September 11,1925, against Jimmy Slattery [114 (51KO) -13-3], former world light heavyweight champion and International Boxing Hall Of Fame, retaining his title by TKO in the round. 11 of 15. The Combat took place at Yankee Stadium in NY On December 11,1925, he defended his crown for the second time by winning a decision in 15 rounds over Jack Delaney, thus taking his revenge. It is June 10,1926, where Berlenbach faces the legendary American light heavyweight and heavyweight, and also International Boxing Hall Of Fame, Young Stribling [224 (129KO) -13-14], (who was incredibly champion of the World only for three hours in his immense career).

There he retained the title for UD in 15 rounds and for the third time, the match took place at Yankee Stadium in N.Y. We are in July 16,1926, where Berlenbach faces Delaney again, this time losing his world title to UD in 15 rounds. The fight took place at Ebbets Field in Brooklin, N.Y., Berlenbach will not be World Champion again. On November 25,1927, he faces the legendary American champion and International Boxing Hall Of Fame, Mickey Walker [131 (60KO) -25-5], who was the middle and light heavyweight world champion, with whom he loses by points in 10 rounds. The match took place at the Coliseum in Chicago, Illinois.

He will continue to box with mixed fortunes, until September 9,1933, where he retires after losing on points in 10 rounds to Carl Knowles [55 (28KO) -40-19]. Years after his retirement, he will open a restaurant called the Ringside, in Sound Beach, N.Y. in the '50s.
