Bozzlife: Is it time for a change?

If you can't tell from the picture, this post is going to focus on basketball. Specifically college basketball. With the Lions out of the running, I don't need to worry about wasting my Sundays watching them anymore. I don't really care about any of the teams that are in the playoffs, and I could care less who wins the college football championship tonight.

So now, with all of that behind me, I can turn my focus solely onto college basketball.

It wasn't a great weekend for me.

I got to watch my nieces play via Youtube and some other streaming services. They won all of their games and it was a pure joy to watch them. What wasn't a pure joy was watching the Michigan State Spartans.

Friday night they completely baffled me by giving up a significant lead and eventually losing to unranked Purdue by one point. This was coming off their big win against #15 Rutgers earlier in the week, so who knows what will happen with them in connection to the polls this week.

I personally wouldn't care if they dropped out of the top 25. Maybe it will give them the kick in the pants they need to get their crap together. Right now they are playing like a middle school rec league. It is painful to even watch them.

I hate to say this, but I think it might be time to pick a secondary team. A team that I can cheer for in addition to the Spartans that might give me a little more hope. I have a couple of requirements.

  • It has to be outside the Big 10 conference. It would be silly to cheer for a team in the same conference as my number 1.

  • It can't be Gonzaga. Sorry @bigtom13, but I don't want to be one of those band wagon jumpers.

  • It can't be Baylor. See above

  • It can't be Duke, Notre Dame, or Oregon. I just really can't stand any of those programs. You aren't going to change my mind, don't try.

With all that in mind, I am kind of leaning towards either Tennessee, or Vanderbilt. I have a strong affinity for Nashville ever since my wife and I visited there a couple of years ago. We loved it so much we went back two years later. I think we would honestly go at least once every year if we could afford it.

I understand that The Volunteers aren't actually in Nashville, but the university is in the same state, so that is good enough for me.

Do you have any suggestions? Give me your pitch in the comments about which team should be my secondary team to cheer for this year.

Saturday saw 15 games with only three of them being postponed.

The big winners of the day were unranked Ohio State over #15 Rutgers. All of the other games went to the ranked team as you could probably expect. The one exception was the #4 Texas vs. #14 West Virginia game. Yes Texas won, but it was only by two points. The Mountaineers took them down to the wire.

Sunday there was a big game in the Big 10 with unranked Maryland beating #12 Illinois. The Big 10 is a tough conference this year and as I said before the Spartans need to get their stuff together if they are even going to hope to get into the big dance.

The two other games on Sunday fell the way you would expect.

No basketball tonight due to the College Football Championship.

If you choose to watch, have fun cheering on which ever team you like. I hate them both...

So. I am definitely not a GU bandwagon jumper. I've been on that wagon from the start. Before the start even :)

Tennessee is probably a good choice. I like Nashville, and Memphis too for that matter. There's the possibility of the Peyton Manning curse (rumor has it that Archie is still pissed that he didn't go to Mississippi). Besides they have a great fight song...

You could sort of ease into GU this year and be in place next year so as to not be a wagon jumper...

Sigh. I don't guess I'll watch any football tonight. I'm looking forward to see who the other team is in the playoffs in '22. Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State but who else? Jeeze.

Haha, yeah, I hear you. It is hard when you have a powerhouse team like that. You tend to get all of the recruits and the cycle just continues. Sorry, I can't do it. Everyone would say "oh look at you bandwagon jumper". I am probably going to go with Tennessee. I still need to make it to Memphis some day. That might be during our next trip since it is only like an hour or two West.

GU is fairly famous for making it without the 'big time recruits'. Jalen Suggs is the second ever McDonalds All American (Zach Collins). Most of GUs really big studs have been foreign nationals. In fact this team has two from France and one from Mali (who is going to be a serious stud at center).

But, after all, better ribs in Memphis AND Nashville than in Spokane :)

I just thought of San Diego State, too. Good program, good coaching and nobody will accuse you of jumping on after last years team :)
