Bozzlife: Weekend Blowout!

I have so much to cover today that I am not even sure where to start. I guess I will get the horrible stuff out of the way first.

NFL

If there was any question that the NFL was a corrupt entity with a grudge against the Detroit Lions, it was absolutely put to rest this past weekend.

The sad thing is, the officials aren't even subtle anymore about their willingness to throw the game to not end in the Lions favor. The commentators, the rules analysts, and the entire state of Michigan sat by incredulously on Sunday as not one but two horrible calls were levied against the Lions which absolutely cost them the game.

A game that they were actually doing a pretty decent job of keeping close. I'd say the officials should be fired, but I have not doubt they were taking their orders from a higher power.

Sure the Lions defense could have stepped up a little sooner, but the fact remains they were without question robbed of the chance to come away with a win.

Alright, now that I have that rant done, how about that Giants/Cowboys game? The Giants came away with a win against Dallas taking them to something like 6-10 on the season. What is more unbelievable is the fact that they could have made it to the playoff's with that record if Washington had just lost their game.

That wasn't the case, since Philadelphia pretty much sabotaged their own chances and allowed Washington to win the game. How horrible is it that a 6 and 10 team could have made it to the playoffs. Makes the Lions 5 -10 record not look so bad and brings even more outrage to the fact that the game was stolen from them which would have moved them to 6 and 10 on the season.

College Football

I am not going to cover all of the bowls that were played these past couple of weeks, but I am going to talk about a few of the ones that I actually watched.

That Georgia/Cincinnati game ended up being quite the joke. It was Cincinnati all the way until the very end of the game. The fact that Georgia won the game was sheer luck and should have zero association with them actually being a better team than the Bearcats.

I honestly had no dog in that race, I could have cared less which team won, but after watching the full game, it became very clear that Cincinnati was the better team.

The Indiana/ Ole Miss game yesterday was a big letdown. There were so few Big 10 teams in any bowls this year (ones that didn't get cancelled anyway). I was hoping for something good for our conference. Especially given how strong Indiana was looking at the beginning of the season. Unfortunately that team didn't show up and they came away with the loss.

I watched parts of the Oklahoma State/Miami game and that was pretty fantastic. Oklahoma State with the upset by a field goal. What could be any better than that!

Then of course there were the playoff games. Pretty disappointing all around. The Clemson/Ohio State game was good up until about halftime. Then the Buckeyes just ran away with it. Plus the Alabama win over Notre Dame was pretty much a yawn fest as well. I think the most exciting play of both games came right at the beginning of the Rose Bowl where that guy hurdled over the defender to take the ball down the field.

I am not sure I am even going to bother watching the national championship. I have very little interest in either team. If it was any other Big 10 team than Ohio State, I might care, but for the Buckeyes, I have zero love, and even less love for the Crimson Tide. Okay, maybe the same amount of zero love for both of them. Bottom line, I just don't care.

College Basketball

I can't remember where I left off with top 25 college basketball, so I am just going to pick up on January 2nd since there were so many games.

Call it a new years miracle, the Michigan State Spartans finally got their first conference win of the season. After playing and beating some really tough teams in the pre-season, it was sad to see them drop the first three in conference play. Thankfully it only took them down to #17, but they still need to keep their stuff together to have a chance at the big dance. I hope the win on Saturday is an indication that they are righting the ship.

#8 Texas upset #3 Kansas in grand fashion. Talk about absolute and total destruction. They beat them by a 25 point margin.

I am happy to see the upsets from last year have continued on to this year. Here are a few more notable ones from last Saturday!

Unranked Oklahoma over #9 West Virginia. Unranked Providence almost beat #11 Creighton only falling short by two points. #14 Rutgers almost beat #10 Iowa, same margin, only two points shy of a tie. Unranked Oklahoma State took #13 Texas Tech to overtime and came away with the win.

Unranked Alabama took down #7 Tennessee.

#1 Gonzaga and #2 Baylor continue to show their dominance. Quite honestly I don't think their conference play has gotten really difficult yet. I am not familiar with either of their conferences, but I am sure it will get a bit harder as the season progresses.

Three other games were postponed on Saturday.

Yesterday had three games that were actually played. Two of them were Big 10 matchups and there were zero upsets. There is only one game on the scheduled for tonight, but it is #9 West Virginia against unranked Oklahoma State. I would not be shocked if we saw an upset come out of this contest.

It should definitely be worth tuning in.

Poor Lions. I know your pain though. As we like to say here in MN, "There's always next year."

I saw that 3 head coaches were fired in the past few days. Was one of them from the Lions? It wouldn't surprise me at all.

He got fired a while ago. They have been having an interim guy coach the last couple of games.
