Bozzlife: Weekend College Hoops Wrap-up

It might have been easy to miss some of the great college basketball games that were on this past weekend with everyone mostly focused on the NFL playoffs. I will admit, besides my nieces two basketball games, I probably watched more football than basketball over the weekend.

Now that we know it is going to be either Kansas City, Green Bay, Buffalo, or Tampa Bay heading to the Superbowl, who are you cheering for? Do you think that Mahomes is going to be healthy enough to play next week. If he is under concussion protocol, he may not have much of a choice no matter how well he is feeling.

Oh, who am I kidding, do you really think KC would sit their star QB during such a crucial game just for something as silly as a concussion? Can you sense my sarcasm? I have a feeling the official report will come out very soon with "no signs of a concussion". Believe it if you will.

Anyway, on to basketball.

Friday night only one game was played with two others being cancelled. Wisconsin is a really well rounded team and they had little issue taking care of what can be a troublesome Rutgers team.

Saturday saw three games postponed.

At least for me, the biggest upset of the day was #23 over #7 Michigan. The Golden Gophers absolutely destroyed the Wolverines. It was a true joy to watch. Michigan has a really good team this year and being a Michigan State fan whose team has been playing far below their potential, it makes me happy to see U of M knocked down a peg.

Other notable upsets were #21 Ohio State over #14 Illinois. I was actually in Ohio this weekend eating a socially distanced meal at a restaurant when this game was on. The people at the bar were quite joyful about the outcome.

Unranked Butler took down #8 Creighton, #18 Virginia beat #12 Clemson by 35 points, and unranked Miami snagged a six point victory from #16 Louisville.

How about that for a weekend of great games!

Gonzaga continues to cruise along. My secondary team Tennessee beat in-state rival Vanderbilt, and #2 Baylor had a eight point win over #15 Texas Tech in what many thought could potentially be an upset game.

Sunday had only three games played. My Spartans have missed their last two games because of Covid reasons and I actually think that might not be a bad thing. If they aren't playing then they aren't losing which is a welcome change lately.

Iowa continues to be a powerhouse in the Big ten despite their sometimes inconsistent play. Garza is typically always on point, but if the rest of the team is shaky, one person can't do it all on their own. They had a convincing victory against a Northwestern team that took down MSU early in conference play.

Tonight there are three games on the slot. If you had to watch only one, I would focus on the Baylor/Kansas game. It could be a really good matchup.

Check back later this week for my usual wrap-up!
