NCAA Men's Basketball Top 25 Recap 2/28/2020 Even More Upsets!

As a Michigan State fan there isn't much better than a Spartans victory. They didn't have a game last night, so that isn't why I am so happy today. Instead something else happened that would probably be the second best thing a Michigan State fan would wish for. That's right, Michigan got upset by Wisconsin. That is a pretty awesome way to start my day!

Now, the big question will be if State can keep things together and not manage to lose this weekend. The loss by U of M puts Michigan State in a good place with the Big Ten tournament just around the corner.

The third most awesome thing to hope for would have been an Ohio State loss last night as well, but apparently that wasn't meant to me. Since they were playing Nebraska, I am not that surprised. They have been horrible pretty much all season.

In other upset news, California took down Colorado. I wouldn't have guessed that based on their records. Perhaps the Pac 12 is a little deeper than I previously anticipated.

Speaking of depth... I know I talk about the Big Ten a lot, but it's where I live and the fact is they are really good this season. I heard a stat the other day that 10 of the 14 teams in the Big Ten are ranked in the top 50. With 64 teams getting into the big dance, that could mean a lot of representation from the Big 10 in this years tournament.

Gonzaga continues to look like a pretty elite team, they are definitely on track for a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Only one top 25 game on tonight, Dayton should easily handle Davidson.

Saturday sees 14 games and the one I will definitely be watching is the Michigan State/Maryland game. It is going to be a tough night for the Spartans and as much as I want them to win, it is going to take everything they've got to get the road win.

Other notable games to check out would be Texas/Texas Tech, Penn State/Iowa should also be good. I have a feeling it will be a very close matchup.

The Seton Hall/Marquette game could see a home upset for the Golden Eagles. The Auburn/Kentucky will probably be on of the most exciting games of the weekend and I wouldn't be shocked by a Duke or West Virginia upset when they face Virginia and Oklahoma respectively.

It is shaping up to be an exciting weekend of college basketball!

The five games on Sunday don't disappoint either. Michigan/Ohio State is a huge rivalry and even though I can't stand either of those teams I will probably tune in for a little bit of it.

Don't be shocked to see a Stanford upset of Colorado or a Cincinnati upset of Houston.

And I was disappointed by Michigan's loss. Not that I am a fan of Big Blue but one of Gonzaga's two losses is to Michigan (last day at the Battle for Atlantis in November). Michigan going down takes a little piece of GU's claim to the #1 in the West.

On the other hand, my buddy Erv will be happy with Wisconsin (He wrestled for them in the 60s).

The Pac 12 is certainly better this year than last but it doesn't have a dominant team. I'd guess they will have two teams in the second weekend of the Tourney. While I think the WCC might have 3!

And don't forget Gonzaga vs St. Mary's Saturday night. It's Senior night in Spokane and St. Mary's is a really good team...

Thanks for the heads up! It should be an exciting weekend. I don't think there are many conferences that have an outright best team this year. There has been so much movement through all of the ranks.
