NCAA Men's Basketball Top 25 Weekend Wrap-up

Like it or not, the end is coming! March is inching closer and closer and for some of you, that may mean that your favorite team is nearly done for the season. That is definitely the case for me as I don't have much hope of Michigan State making it to the tournament.

I feel they have had more than enough time to get their act together and work out the kinks, but it just doesn't seem like they can figure it out. My brother in law asked me if I had my secondary team picked out at lunch yesterday, because he too can see the writing on the wall.

It would take nothing short of a miracle (and a Big 10 tournament sweep) for MSU to squeak into one of the sixty four slots that make up the NCAA tournament.

This past Friday we had a heck of a game between unranked Nebraska and #6 Illinois. The only team worse than MSU in the Big 10 took Illinois into overtime but came up short with a 77 to 72 loss. It is too bad MSU couldn't have had a similar showing in their game against Iowa on Saturday.

Speaking of Saturday. We had sixteen top twenty five games being played with only one of them being postponed. Shocker, it was Baylor. They seem to be having a really hard time with Covid this year. I feel like more than most other teams. Maybe it is just because they are ranked so high it only seems like it.

Anyway, this could have been a pretty good game against #7 Texas Tech. I guess they dodged the bullet for a while longer on that one.

It wasn't an upset victory, but I just wanted to give a shoutout to Loyola-Chicago for making their way into the top 25.

Also, not an upset, but the #12 Oklahoma versus #14 West Virginia Game was probably some of the most exciting basketball on Saturday. It went into two overtimes and The Sooners were just able to squeak out the win by one point . I hope we start to see some more games like this as we inch closer to the tournament.

My secondary team #16 Tennessee is starting to lose some steam and they dropped their contest against unranked LSU this weekend. Maybe I am just jinxed and the teams that I choose to cheer for are doomed to fail.

Iowa crushed Michigan State and ended up costing me a couple of bucks on my sports betting app. I was hoping maybe the past two wins they finally got under their belts would be a stimulus for them to do a little better against The Hawkeyes and maybe even win. That wasn't the case and they took a thirty point beat down.

Unranked Arkansas took down #10 Missouri in overtime, and I am pretty sure I won a couple of bucks off of that game. #19 Creighton also had the upset win over #5 Villanova.

There just weren't that many upsets on Saturday.

Gonzaga continued to cruise along with a 39 point trouncing of their opponent.

Valentine's Day gave us three games, but only two were played.

Remember that shoutout to Loyola-Chicago? Well they played the exact same team (Drake) the next day and were beaten in overtime. I am guessing that top 25 ranking will be fairly short-lived.

#3 Michigan easily took down #21 Wisconsin in Big 10 play.

There is only one game on the slot for tonight. We will likely see a couple of shake-ups in the rankings this week.

My biggest issue right now is the fact that Michigan and Ohio State are ranked #3 and #4 nationally. I'd actually be okay with Duke being in one of those spots versus either of those teams. I really can't stand either of them and to think that they are potentially on the way to making a deep tournament run has me pretty annoyed.

I am starting to get less and less excited about the tournament this year. Sure, I will watch, but I can't say as though my heart is going to be in it.
