Season Of The Underdogs? Nail Biting Finales

There is something different about football around the world this season, isn't there? No fans in the stadiums.

Fans are the heart and soul of football, the reason teams count on their home fixtures to finish well in every football season. The fans make home grounds more formidable for the home teams, no matter how lowly they might be placed in their respective league tables.

This is arguably why Liverpool almost capitulated last season when football returned after the initial Covid-19 lockdown. It could also be argued that it is the reason why there have been many upsets in football results this season than there have been overall over the years.
The current footballing season started with some of the most bizzare results you could ever imagine. Like Aston Villa trashing Liverpool, the then reigning English Champions 7:2, Manchester United lost 1:6 at home to Tottenham and Dortmund lost 1:5 at home to Stuttgart which invariably cost the BVB coach his job.

These results are why we live for football, why football is such a special sport and there is no doubt that it has been a special footballing season all round. From one off freak results to underdogs going all the way to clicnhing their respective leagues titles.

In ITALY, the season started with Juventus the favorites to win it, having done so for the past 9 seasons. Midway through the season and it was the Milian duo leading the charge at the top of the table. AC Milan looked the sharpest of the two and were at least 5 points clear at the top of the table. But at the turn of the year, Inter Milan shone the brightest and took over the proceedings while AC Milan faltered.
Inter Milan were pronounced champions with a couple of matches to go while Juventus are at the risk of missing out on Champions League football for the first time in a very long time.

Sporting Lisbon were crowned champions of the 2020/2021 PORTUGAL Football league season, the first time they are winning the league title in over 20 years. Oddly enough, they did it without Bruno Fernandez who has been their talisman before his recent move to Manchester United.

In TURKEY, it went down to the wire as Besiktas clinched the league with just one goal difference, leaving Fernabahce heartbroken in second place. Could you imagine your team losing a league title because of just one goal?

Athletico Madrid, the ultimate underdogs in the league of giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have been leading the charge in the league for the best part of the season. They were leading the league with almost 10 points at one point in the season but a string of poor results left them holding on for dear life. Madrid took the window of opportunity presented by Cholo's men while Barcelona couldnt keep up.

It is one match to go in La Liga and ATM are just one point ahead of their local rival Real Madrid and it is a blink and lose out situation on the day the curtain closes down on the one of the most exciting seasons of European club football. Athletico doesnt know how to do it the easy way, if you remember how they won it the last time, but I am sure the whole world would be rooting for them.

Now, here is one outcome no one saw coming - Lille leading the French League 1 with one match to go. It has been a very awkward season for the money bags of French football PSG. After elimiinating Barcelona and Bayern Munich in this season's Champions League, they were looking like real favorites to win it this time having just lost to Bayern in the previous final. But it wasnt to be as they were eliminated by fellow money bags Manchester City in the semi finals. Now they have the league title to look forward to for their season to be considered successful but Lille doesnt seem to be backing down.

With one match to go in both La Liga and the French Ligue 1, would there be a league title upset with the underdogs ATM and Lille going all the way to win it or would there be a matchday upset where the underdogs lose out, after having led the chart for the better parts of the season? What do you think?

I am rooting for an underdogs day, Lille and ATM to win respectively, what a story it would be for the whole football world.

This season is really quite different. The absence of the fans had lot to do with the turn out but it's also a good thing to see the underdogs win.

Lille and atletico win will be great to see for a change

It looks as though many leagues are going down to the final games of the season around Europe. honestly I haven't really been following the various leagues besides the English Premiership and may watch some others this weekend as that is basically done already.

Yeah, some leagues are going to the wire. A lot is at stake on the last day of the league for many clubs, title deciders, and European qualifications up for grabs.

Thanks for the tips, I have been trying to stay as active as I could.
