Heisman Countdown - Announcement Saturday January 5th

Well the final 4 Heisman candidates for this year have been announced and there are some interesting twists in this years Heisman race. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith and Florida quarterback Kyle Trask will make the trip to New York for the announcement.

Bama managed to get two players in the final 4 for the first time. Mac Jones has had a statistically excellent year and is QBing the favorite team to win the National Championship. Will his favorite target DeVonta Smith draw votes from Mac?

Trevor Lawrence hit the CFB world with a bang 3 years ago taking the Tigers to their first National Championship as a Freshman. While he hasn't had the best year this year he is still expected to be the #1 pick in the draft. With two QBs putting up better numbers than Lawrence this year, the question is will the media give him the award more as a career award?

As a Gator fan, I can tell you who I'm rooting for. Kyle Trask is one of the most interesting stories in a long time. A kid who never started in high school Trask came to Florida as a lowly 2-star recruit. His college career appeared to be headed down the career back-up role until Florida's starter, Feleipi Franks went down in the 3-rd quarter last year. Given a chance to start, Trask showed he was much much more than a back-up. He turned the Gator's around last year and helped get the Gators back to the championship game this year. With much less to work with than the other QBs in the race, Trask put up qawdy numbers on offence. If the Gators had a even decent defense the Gators might be undefeated.

While I'm rooting for Kyle, my gut tells me they give the award to Lawrence. Kyle laid an egg in the LSU game and that likely cost him the award. I expect the two Bama finalists will split votes from each other (and maybe remind voters of the supporting cast Mac had to work with).

Who do you think is going to win the Heisman? Drop a note in the comments and let me know who and why.

Oh, and one last thing.

Go Gators!
