Hash focus: The Austin, Texas H3

One of our current Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers members' mother Hash is in Austin Texas, and he recently introduced us to some of the fun they have had in the Lone Star State from some time ago. Like most places in the USA, their ability to do their runs was severely limited for the past year, but are not back in full effect.

While I have never had the pleasure of running with this particular group, I do love me some Texas and once the world returns to normal perhaps I will make it down there in order to participate with this very active group.

With 2 or more events each week, they are nearly as active as we are and that is saying a lot for American H3's since more often than not those groups tend to have their membership comprised of people that actually have jobs. Most of us don't bother with working because it gets in the way of trail-running and drinking beer.

When I see groups that put this much effort into their regalia, I know they are going to be the type of people that I am going to get along with immediately. Therefore it should come as no surprise that the one member from their Hash gets along just wonderfully with everyone here in Chiang Mai. We all find his stupid Texas accent endearing and there is absolutely zero reason for him to be ashamed of that. That doesn't mean that we don't pick on him about it though and we put him on the ice weekly to remind him that he sounds profoundly different than the rest of us do.

While our events have been suspended due to new Covid regulations, Texas seems to have thrown all of that to the wayside and is allowing events big and small to happen all over the state. This is evident if you go to their website and see that they are currently doing at least 2 runs a week. I have to say that i am a bit envious!

We all appreciate the ability to get together, run, drink beer, and socialize and perhaps I speak for everyone in the Chiang Mai Hash when I say that it is times like these (it has been 3 weeks of no events) that we realize exactly how important the Hash is to all of us.

I don't know what the trails are like in Texas, but hope to find out someday. I would imagine that the temperature there is a bit less than 90% humidity so that would be a very welcome change. On the flip side, I think the intense heat and humidity of Chiang Mai has prepared me for just about any Hash situation I might encounter anywhere in the world except for maybe Antarctica.

So to all of our brothers and sisters that are now Hashing again in Austin, Texas; we salute you. We are taking good care of "CrapHat" while he is stuck here and honestly will be reluctant to let him leave once he is allowed to.

Although all of our own events in Chiang Mai are currently suspended during Covid, if you are in the area and want to receive a notification for when we resume operations, send us a message at our official website.

Looks like a very fin sort of group that likes to enjoy themselves. Funny how some people can just fit in anywhere and others can't.

This is a big part of the H3. It kind of turns people into social animals and I think that being unafraid to speak in front of others is a skill in life that is very difficult for some people. It does a lot for one's self-confidence... well, that and the liquid courage we drink at the events.

I know a few Texans and they are no strangers to beer. I bet they are a fun group to run with.

well i think "running" would be a bit of a stretch for most of these guys and girls but they do move somewhat, which is probably better than sitting still.
