Champion in sport, champion in life

Alex Zanardi is a sportsman who has always had to fight in his life and has never surrendered to the adversities that the same has reserved for him while he was doing what he liked most: racing in a car. In the 90s Alex participated in several F1 and Champ Car championships and in this competition, on September 15th 2001, during the race in Germany on the Lausitzring track, the driver loses control of his car, which is overwhelmed by the arrive of another car, hitting in full.

Unfortunately, the accident cost him the amputation of both lower limbs. After 16 surgeries and 7 cardiac arrests, Alex returns to life and as a sport lover decides to continue running but no longer in a racing car, but on a bike using the handbike, a bike built specifically for those who unfortunately lack the lower limbs. But all this does not give up Alex, on the contrary it stimulates him to the point of training regularly and participating in the Paralympic disciplines, winning many trophies from 2011 to 2019, as well as numerous world championships.

A strength of mind and an immeasurable passion for sport that despite being the cause of his brutal injury, was also his lifeline, dedicating constant and intensive training day and night. Alex proves to be a great man even before a great athlete and despite his physical condition, he is often the testimonial of some prostheses for the lower limbs that can help all those who have this disability and he always does it with a big smile printed on his lips. , with the optimism and love for life beyond reproach, almost enviable by those who are luckier than him.

The athlete has always explained how that accident changed him for the better and not for the worse, paying attention to the things that surround us, to family, friends and life. To have survived that fateful September 15th 2001 was not a bad luck but an opportunity, a life lesson that is difficult to explain and understand and for which there is no degree course.

We have said that sport is his passion but it was also the cause of the first accident in Germany and unfortunately it was not the last. On June 19, 2020 Alex had another dramatic accident colliding with his handbike against a truck while training in the hills near the city of Siena.

His condition is serious, Alex is in a coma ... again. There are several interventions on his head to reduce bleeding and try to save his life, once again hanging by a thread. To date the situation has improved slightly but the neurological picture remains serious and we hope that in the coming months he will be able to talk to us again, as only he knows how to do.

Come on Alex! We are all with you!

one could hardly tell the enthusiasm of this boy at least you have not seen his dramatic story.

I saw a documentary about Alex, from the happiness of being an F1 driver, to the desperation of no longer having legs to walk with, as he calmly did until the day before.

A shock overcome thanks to his immense willpower and the love of his very strong family
