Coronavirus bites the Giro d'Italia ๐Ÿ˜”

A few days ago I enthusiastically posted the passage of the Giro d'Italia in my city of Trani, a moment of great joy for all the fans and a beautiful day of sport, full of many events also organized by sponsors and many gadgets for the little ones and not only.

Today, unfortunately, athletes are starting to be decimated by the coronavirus which slowly infects above all the staff members and consequently the others themselves. Today the Dutch Steven Kruijswijk and the Australian Matthew Matthews did not leave for the new stage, with the consequent retirement of the Jumbo-Visma and the Mitchelton-Scott, in which the cases of positivity found were even six, without precisely affect the riders but only the staff members.

Unfortunately, in these cases it is necessary to swab all team members and the timing to obtain the results of the results is such as not to allow the race to take place and for this reason, therefore, for a matter of safety for all cyclists and their staff, the teams must withdraw.

This is very sad indeed. The Giro d'Italia number 103 has already been postponed from May to October due to Covid-29 but the situation that until a few weeks ago seemed to be controlled, now begins to increase daily and more and more sportsmen are discovering positive for tampons.

Meanwhile, Peter Sagan won today's stage number 10 starting from Lanciano and arriving in Tortoreto, covering a distance of 177 km. Mainly flat stage like tomorrow's where the sprinters will compete against each other. Maglia rosa, the jersey that identifies the first in the standings at the moment, remains in Almeida.

At the end of the Giro d'Italia there are still 11 stages left and it will end on 25 October. The situation remains delicate but the organizers confirm that the goal is to get to the end of the race, in Milan. The tiring but wonderful mountains are still missing, where climbers can give us many beautiful escapes, in addition to the enchanting mountain scenery. I really hope that there will be no more bad news in the next few days that could undermine the stability of the competition.
