Federica Pellegrini Could Say Goodbye To Swimming

The Olympic champion Federica Pellegrini announced that in the event of a new lockdown and a new postponement of the Olympics, she would permanently leave swimming and give up the competition. Meanwhile, the swimmer tested positive for Coronavirus about a couple of weeks ago, announcing it in tears on social media to all her fans but the good news arrived this morning with the finally negative result of the swab.

The 2020 Olympics should have taken place in Tokyo but unfortunately the pandemic has upset the entire organization and the spread of infections made it necessary to postpone it to 2021 for security reasons. However, the trend of the last few weeks could jeopardize the Olympic competition with a further postponement to 2022 or the postponement directly to 2024.

Federica is currently 33 years old and is unlikely to be able to sustain the intense rhythms and workouts in the coming years. Furthermore, at the moment in Italy the gyms and swimming pools are closed for safety for at least a month and at the moment it is not possible to know if this containment measure will be sufficient or it will be necessary to extend the period.

The first international success comes at the Athens Olympics in 2004, finishing second in the freestyle, a few cents behind the Romanian Camelia Potec. Federica was 16. From here began a long sequence of victories at Olympic and World level, establishing herself as the strongest swimmer in freestyle, winning several times the gold medal in the 200 meters of which she holds the world record with 1'52 "98.

In 2006 the athlete had a difficult period, without any victories, due to muscular problems that haunted her for several months and a relationship with the coach that was not perfect, which led her to change coach.

Today Federica is in the final phase of her career that would end in an exemplary way with participation in the last Olympics, also hoping for a success in the 200 meters. For the moment it is very difficult to make predictions and the only hope for Federica to participate in the next competition is that of a sharp decline in the pandemic or better still the eradication, allowing her and all the athletes to participate with serenity, for the happiness of all sports lovers and more

I think many athletes will be thinking similarly. The problem is training and trying to peak at the right time just for these things to be cancelled. Top athletes have a time limit and 33 is in my opinion past the sell by date and wont make 2024 as 36 is seriously old in this sport.

yes I agree. I also think that in addition to sports life Federica, but in general the woman, must also think about private life and create a family.
