Table tennis is becoming hot cake for gamblers

In the spring, when essentially all major sports were halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, bettors in the U.S. and around the globe wagered millions of dollars on international table tennis tournaments held in Eastern Europe.

In July, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, after being alerted of potential corruption, instructed the state's regulated sportsbook to suspend betting on all table tennis events in Ukraine or any matches involving six players.

"While there is not yet any evidence that any match fixing occurred in New Jersey, due the nature of the alert, the Division is suspending approval for wagering on all table tennis events in the Ukraine, including but not limited to the Setka Cup, WIN Cup, and TT Cup," a notice sent to sportsbooks by the Division of Gaming Enforcement stated in July
