Welcome to a Cricket related blog from me after many days as the ongoing Olympics and Tennis grand slams before that occupied my time.

But, since the 5 match test series between India and England will be starting from today and that makes me to write this blog as a preview for the First test with details of head too head, possible team lineup and analysis of the players.

Although India - England series is not as keen as a India vs Pakistan or Australia vs New Zealand or even Australia vs England series, but, this is something India will be looking forward to as they haven't won a series in England since 2007 and they have some scores to settle and prove that, their success in Australia early this year is not a one series wonder.

Head to Head:

India and England have played 126 Test matches and England has a big lead in the win bracket as they have won 49 tests as against India 30 and there were 49 draws between these 2 teams.

At home, England is as formidable as Australia or New Zealand or India as they have won 34 test matches at home out of the 62 tests played with India winning just 7 and remaining 21 ending in draw.

Players To Watch:

India is coming off a defeat to New Zealand at Rose Bowl in Southampton and they will be playing at Trent Bridge in Nottingham to kick start the Test series against hosts England.

So, who will be the key players? Let's see by each team.

England:

England have lost the services of their premier bowler Joffra Archer an all-rounder Ben Stokes and will have to workout with a different combination in the absence of these Two.

So, in the absence of Stokes, Sam Curran will be spearheading the all-rounder's spot and will be trying to fill in the shoes of Ben Stokes.

Sam Curran is no stranger to test matches having played 21 matches already and has been impressive with scoring close to 1000 runs and have taken 44 wickets.

But what makes him to a better player is the fact that, in the last one year period, he has been a better player for England in home and away series.

England's opener Rory Burns is another player to watch out for as he was top scorer for England against New Zealand and is in good form in the lead upto the test series against India.

England skipper Joe Root didn't have a good series against New Zealand as he score very less and he would be itching to score more runs against India. We can re-collect that, he was the top scorer for England against India in India.

Among the bowlers for England, veteran James Anderson will be key in the swinging English conditions and Mark Wood will be key as well as he is one of the consistent performers for England over years.

India:

For India, Captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant will be along with Cheteshwar Pujara.

KL Rahul scored a century in warm up match and with Mayank Agarwal ruled out, KL Rahul has more chance of opening with Rohit Sharma.

Among the bowlers, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will be key being the swing bowlers, but all 3 may not get a chance as India might look to strengthen the batting by including Shardul Thakur or spinner Ravindra Jadeja along with first choice spinner in Ashwin. India may play Shardul Thakur to strengthen their lower order batting as Thakur was key in winning a test in Australia with his batting.

Possible teams:

India:

  1. Rohit Sharma
  2. KL Rahul
  3. Cheteshwar Pujara

  6. Rishabh Pant
  7. Ravichandran Ashwin
  8. Shardul Thakur

If India decides to play both spinners including Ravindra Jadeja, then most probably, Shardul Thakur may miss out.

This series is also part of the World Test Championship cycle for the period of 2021 to 2023 and hence, both teams will be looking to take early lead by winning the series.
